Everything to Know About Poke Balls in Pokemon GOWhen Should You Discard Poke Balls?
Poke Balls, being essential tools in Pokemon GO, play a crucial role in catching Pokemon. Apart from the familiar red and white regular Poke Ball, there are different variants available, with some having better catch rates and even one type that guarantees a successful catch.
In the game, trainers can acquire Poke Balls frequently from PokeStops, but they can occupy a significant amount of storage space when not in use. Considering their significance in the gameplay of Pokemon GO, should they be discarded? Or is it preferable to have more rather than less of them?

There are *three types of Poke Balls:
Poke Ball (red/white)
Great Ball (blue/white)
Ultra Ball (yellow/white)
In addition to the regular Poke Ball, Great Ball, and Ultra Ball, the exclusive Premier Ball is also available. The Premier Ball is a plain white Poke Ball that can only be obtained during Raids and Bonus Challenges, specifically the Team GO Rocket. Players are allocated a certain number of Premier Balls to capture the Raid Pokemon or Shadow Pokemon, depending on their performance in the raid or battle.

Players will initially receive Poke Balls, the first type of Poké Ball. Professor Willow generously provides GO trainers with 50 Poke Balls to get them started. These Poke Balls have the lowest catch rate and are exclusively available for purchase in the Shop, with options to buy 20 Poke Balls for 100 Coins.
x100 Poke Balls (x460 Coins)
x200 Poke Balls (x800)
For players who struggle to obtain Poke Coins, it is advisable to conserve them for purposes such as expanding Item and Pokemon Storage.
Poke Balls, widely available at PokeStops and Gyms, are the most frequently acquired type of ball. Essentially, spinning PokeStops several times daily is the simplest method to accumulate a stockpile of Poke Balls.
Upon reaching level 12, players will gain access to the Great Ball. Additionally, there are Special Research Tasks that can be completed prior to reaching level 12, allowing players to obtain them earlier. Great Balls have a higher catch rate compared to Poke Balls and can be obtained from Stops/Gyms and Field Research Tasks once unlocked.
At level 20, players will unlock the Ultra Ball. This ball boasts the highest catch rate among Poke Balls and Great Balls. It guarantees success when used to capture Pokemon with moderate CP. Due to this, they are the rarest to find at Stops/Gyms. Players are more likely to obtain one or two Ultra Balls on their 7th day of Daily PokeStop Spin. Ultra Balls are most effective against fully-evolved Pokemon or those with high CP.
When Should You Discard Poke Balls?
To prioritize discarding items from the Items Bag, trainers should first consider removing regular Potions before Poke Balls. It is recommended to discard the red/white Poke Balls, as they are the most commonly found. Although Great Balls are less common, discarding a few of them should not cause significant impact. However, trainers are advised to avoid discarding Ultra Balls unless absolutely necessary.
To discard an item, follow these steps:
Tap the Poke Ball icon at the bottom of the screen.
Select Items (bag icon).
Scroll down to the desired item, and tap the Trash Can icon next to its description.
Tap the + or - sign to input how many to discard and select Yes.
Catching Pokemon is essential for filling out the Pokedex and earning XP, so it is advisable to use Poke Balls sparingly. Pokemon often break out of Poke Balls or attack when they are thrown. Additionally, trainers may accidentally drop a Poke Ball if they tap it without flinging it during an Encounter, resulting in losing the Poke Ball.
Regrettably, it is quite effortless to exhaust a few Poke Balls while attempting to catch Pokemon. It is more prudent to store them and utilize them strategically during events, particularly during Spotlight Hours, which provide an opportunity to find Shiny Pokemon easily.
