Disney kicked off the anime portion of its hybrid live-action and anime fantasy adventure project, Dragons of Wonderhatch, with a special video on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. The video revealed four new cast members for the anime segments, including the voice of Code Geass’ Lelouch vi Britannia.
Dragons of Wonderhatch will feature a unique blend of live-action and anime segments, all of which will contribute to the overall story. The series is scheduled to debut internationally on the Disney+ platform on December 20, 2023, and boasts an impressive cast for both its anime and live-action segments.

The Dragons of Wonderhatch series was first revealed in November of 2022, showcasing a sizzle reel trailer with behind-the-scenes footage and more. Although some anime fans have doubts about the final outcome, there is still significant anticipation and intrigue to see what unfolds.

Yu Shimamura, Kenta Miyake, Jun Fukuyama, and Shimba Tsuchiya have been announced as the newest additions to the cast of the Dragons of Wonderhatch series in a special video. Shimamura will take on the role of Kate, the deputy commander of Akuta’s unit, while Miyake and Fukuyama will portray Byce and Gatz, both members of Akuta’s unit. Tsuchiya will play Maul, an Upanantan boy who holds onto the belief in the existence of another world.
Each of the four have had impressive previous roles in the anime industry. Notably, Fukuyama is known for his work as the voice of Code Geass protagonist, Lelouch vi Britannia. Miyaka is best known as the voice of My Hero Academia’s All Might, and Shimamura for her role as the voice of Attack on Titan’s Annie Leonhart. Finally, Tsuchiya is recognized by anime fans as the voice of either Burn the Witch’s Balgo Parks or Haikyuu!!’s Tsutomu Goshiki.
Other anime cast members include Kenjiro Tsuda as Gyro and Shunsuke Takeuchi as Gafin. The live-action cast features Sena Nakajima as Nagi, Daiken Okudaira as Tyme, Yoshito Emmanuelle as Son, Mackenyu Arata as Akuta, Rena Tanaka as Hana, Masaki Mirua as Taichi, Riko Narumi as Ayana Nijisaki, and Sumire as Saira.
The project's scripts were penned by Kyota Fujimoto, Takamasa Oe, and Anna Kawahara, while Teruhisa Yamamoto, Hitoshi Itou, and Hideyuki Wakuta took on the roles of producers. C & I Entertainment is recognized as the production company, with Production I.G handling the anime portion of the project.
Kentaro Hagiwara is leading the direction after dedicating five years to developing the series, with Takashi Otsuka directing the anime segments. Original character designs and concept art for the series are being crafted by Posuka Demizu.
