Francis Lee, a former striker for England and Manchester City, passed away at the age of 79 following a courageous fight against cancer. Throughout his illustrious 17-year career, Lee secured two old First Division titles, netted over 200 goals, and proudly represented England on 27 occasions, contributing 10 goals to his name.

Starting his career at Bolton, Lee scored an impressive 92 goals in 182 games before making a move to City for a then club-record fee of £60k. His contribution played a significant role in City's triumphs, including winning the First Division title in 1968, the FA Cup in 1969, and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1970.

Lee's prolific scoring abilities led him to become City's top scorer for five consecutive seasons, from 1969/70 to 1973/74. In recognition of his outstanding performances, he was honored with the club's Player of the Year award in 1970 and the 1971 Golden Boot award.

Lee relocated to Derby in 1974 and played a crucial role in guiding the club to victory in the First Division championship, contributing 12 goals, including the decisive one against City.

Following his retirement from professional football in 1976, Lee embarked on a successful business venture where he notably hired renowned comedian Peter Kay to work in his toilet roll company.

He assumed the position of chairman of City in 1994, but stepped down four years later as the club was on the verge of being demoted to the third division of English football. In 2016, Lee was honored with a CBE for his contributions to both charity and football.
