An industry expert has taken to social media to reveal the names of four low-powered CPUs from Intel's Meteor Lake lineup. This development suggests that Intel's already complex range of processors is about to get even more confusing. These upcoming CPUs are expected to be the powerhouse behind some of the thinnest and lightest laptops available for purchase in 2024.

Meteor Lake is the codename given by Intel to the initial generation of its Core Ultra CPUs. Initially designated for laptops and other portable consumer electronics, Intel has now announced plans to release Meteor Lake-S desktop CPUs in 2024. This comes after dispelling rumors that the production yield issues would lead to the cancellation of these processors.

The details of the upcoming product series remain unclear. However, Golden Pig Upgrade Pack, a Chinese insider who was the first to report on the Core Ultra 9 185H, has shared the names of four CPU models. According to their information, the Meteor Lake line will consist of the Core Ultra 5 125U and 134U, as well as the 155U and 164U SKUs from the Core Ultra 7 subseries. The Core Ultra name indicates the CPU's affiliation with Intel's Meteor Lake generation, but it does not necessarily indicate its performance level.

Additionally, the third SKU number in the new naming system will signify the thermal design power (TDP) of the CPU. XX5U processors will operate at 15 watts, while their XX4U counterparts will have a TDP as low as 9 watts. Essentially, all four of the leaked names belong to relatively low-powered CPUs that prioritize battery life. For comparison, the entire 13th generation of H series Intel Core mobile processors has a TDP of 45 watts. Devices equipped with these CPUs, including some of the best gaming laptops of 2023, typically offer around six hours of 4K video playback.
