Lady Gaga is ensuring that she honors the legacy of her late friend Tony Bennett by commemorating him beyond just one day a year. On Tony Bennett Day, which falls on August 3rd, she sent him birthday wishes and expressed her intention to celebrate him continuously. Gaga shared her heartfelt message on Instagram along with two photos of herself elegantly dressed in a black gown, with a hot dog truck as the backdrop in New York City. She also emphasized that she will always celebrate Tony whenever she performs jazz music on stage, spends time with his family, or strolls through the streets of New York, as a way to remember and appreciate his significant contributions to both the city and the world.
Bennett, who would have turned 97 on Thursday, passed away on July 21 following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. In a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, Bennett's team shared that he was still singing at his piano until recently, and his final song was his first chart-topping hit, "Because of You." They expressed gratitude to Tony, acknowledging that his songs would forever live in their hearts.
Gaga expressed her eternal longing for her dear friend in a heartfelt tribute following his passing. "I will forever cherish our moments of singing, recording, and conversing together. The stage will never be the same without him," she shared on Instagram, captioning a loving photograph of herself embracing the legendary jazz singer. "Tony and I possessed a boundless enchantment that allowed us to transcend time. We revitalized the music, rejuvenating it as a harmonious duo for a new generation."

The pair, whose album "Cheek to Cheek" in 2014 and "Love for Sale" in 2021 both won Grammy Awards for Best Traditional Pop Vocal album, emphasized that their friendship was authentic rather than just a performance on stage.
Gaga further elaborated in her Instagram tribute, stating, "Not only did he teach me about music and showbiz life, but he also showed me how to maintain a positive attitude and stay focused. 'Straight ahead,' he would always say." She continued, "He was an eternal optimist, believing in the importance of high-quality work and a fulfilling life. Additionally, Tony always exuded gratitude. He served in World War II, marched alongside Martin Luther King Jr., and performed jazz alongside the most talented singers and musicians in the world."
Gaga also expressed her feelings about Tony's battle with Alzheimer's, stating that she has been mourning his loss for a long time. She described their goodbye as long and impactful. Although losing Tony to Alzheimer's has been painful, she found beauty in this era of memory loss, recognizing its sacredness and the desire to maintain dignity. Gaga's main wish was for Tony to remember her love and gratitude for him. Despite his fading memories, she understood that he was sharing a deeply vulnerable moment with her by being willing to sing together, even as his nature was changing. This experience and Tony Bennett will forever hold a special place in her heart.
Earlier that day, Tony's son, Danny Bennett, shared his father's final words during an interview on the Today show.
Danny, 69, disclosed that Bennett's final words to him were a simple yet profound expression of gratitude: "Thank you." Those two words encapsulate everything I want to say about him. Bennett, whose real name was Anthony Benedetto, leaves behind his wife Susan Benedetto and their four children. Danny and Dae were born from his first marriage with Patricia Beech, while Antonia and Joanna were his daughters with his second wife, Sandra Grant.
