Three flight attendants are being commended for their quick action in resolving a physical altercation between two passengers on an EVA Air flight.
According to a statement from the airline to CNN, the conflict started when one passenger was coughing and the person sitting next to him attempted to switch seats to avoid the situation. Unfortunately, the seat he selected was already occupied by another male passenger, leading to a disagreement that escalated into a physical confrontation.
EVA reported that three female flight attendants intervened to resolve the situation. The incident occurred on Flight BR08, which was three hours into its 12-hour trip from Taipei to San Francisco on May 8. Both passengers involved were foreigners, but their specific nationalities were not disclosed by the Taiwan-based airline.
Thanks to the fast response of the flight attendants and help from caring passengers, the airline was able to separate the two men and the flight continued on to San Francisco, landing on time.
According to EVA's statement to CNN, the company has a strict zero-tolerance policy when it comes to passenger disturbances.
The company will reward the three cabin crew members later on.
The plane's captain contacted San Francisco police during the flight, and the two passengers causing trouble were questioned upon arrival, as reported by EVA.
In 2019, there was a notable incident on an EVA flight involving an overweight male passenger. He apparently required assistance from female flight attendants to undress, use the bathroom, and clean himself afterwards, claiming he was unable to do it on his own.
After the incident, EVA Airlines publicly thanked its employees for their help and promised to investigate the situation further.
That same year, EVA reversed its policy of only hiring women as flight attendants and said it would hire men as cabin crew members too.
