Kourtney Kardashian is sharing her experience of having emergency fetal surgery while pregnant with her first child with husband Travis Barker.
During the premiere of The Kardashians season 5, which was released on Thursday, May 23, Kourtney, who is 45 years old, gave an update on her pregnancy.
Kourtney, who was "31 and a half" weeks pregnant while filming, shared that she feels amazing. She mentioned feeling the oxytocin and all the good pregnancy hormones, having pinch-me moments all day long where she realizes they are really having a baby.
Despite her excitement, Kourtney faced complications leading up to the arrival of her now-6-month-old son Rocky.
Kourtney shared in a confessional that they had planned a scan at home for all the kids to see the baby before Travis left for tour. The doctor coming for the scan is a high-risk specialist known for being very thorough. During the scan, something caught the doctor's attention, and he recommended Kourtney to see a couple of specialists.
Kourtney described the fetal surgery as "terrifying," especially since her husband, Travis, 48, couldn't be there with her.

In September 2023, Travis suddenly flew to California while he was on tour with Blink-182 overseas. He later explained that it was because his wife needed to have an emergency procedure. Kourtney mentioned that Travis was unable to reach her while he was on his way back home.
"When he finally made it back, I had already undergone the surgery because it had to be done urgently. My mom took me to the hospital and Travis arrived as soon as he landed," she shared on the latest episode. "He stayed by my side at the hospital and slept there with me."
Kourtney praised the medical team who helped her during her time of need. She described the experience as quick and miraculous, noting that the timing played a crucial role in saving everything. Kourtney expressed her gratitude for how everything unfolded and credited the doctors for making the best decisions that ultimately saved their baby.
Kourtney described the health scare as a "trauma" for both her and Travis. Many people appreciated her openness about it, as they often feel hesitant to share similar experiences with their loved ones due to fear of judgment. However, her doctor assured her that it was not her fault and not related to age, but rather a rare occurrence.
Due to the medical procedure, Kourtney had to take it easy before the arrival of Rocky in November 2023. Aside from Rocky, she is also a mother to Mason (14), Penelope (11), and Reign (9) with her ex Scott Disick.
Due to the emergency fetal surgery I underwent, I am currently on bed rest as there is a hole in the amniotic sac from the procedure. I have restrictions such as not driving or standing for more than 20 minutes, so I am mostly staying at home.
Prior to recording her confessional for The Kardashians, Kourtney shared her thoughts on the health scare through social media.

I am forever thankful to my amazing doctors for saving our baby's life. My husband, who came back from tour to be by my side in the hospital and take care of me, is my rock," she shared on Instagram in September 2023. I also want to thank my mom for being there for me. As I had three easy pregnancies before, the fear of urgent fetal surgery was unexpected.
Going through this experience has given me a newfound respect for mothers who have had to fight for their babies during pregnancy. It's a feeling of fear that is hard to understand unless you've been through it. I thank God for the blessing of walking out of the hospital with my baby boy safe in my tummy.
In the later part of the episode, Kris Jenner organized a baby shower for Kourtney and Travis. They were worried they couldn't go because they had COVID, but they ended up making it to the party before anyone else. During the celebration, they chose to sit away from the rest of the guests.
Kourtney was very happy with how Kris transformed the baby shower into a Disneyland theme. She loved that there were churro carts, Mickey Mouse-shaped pretzels, and personalized Mickey Mouse ears for everyone at the party.
Before the baby shower, Kris caught up with Kourtney's ex, Scott. They talked about his weight loss and then moved on to discussing Caitlyn Jenner's role in the House of Kardashian documentary, which was shown in 2023.
Hulu drops fresh episodes of The Kardashians every Thursday.
