King Charles III and Queen Camilla were seen driving away from their London home in a car as he undergoes cancer treatment.
On Wednesday, April 17, Camilla, who is 76 years old, happily waved at onlookers from the front passenger seat, while Charles, aged 75, greeted people from the back seat.
The royal couple has returned to London after marking their 19th wedding anniversary in Scotland. Earlier in the month, they made a trip to their Balmoral residence situated on the banks of the River Muick.
The couple’s anniversary retreat was a much-needed break for them, especially after the recent turmoil within the royal family. In February, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer after a procedure for an enlarged prostate. The palace mentioned in a statement that Charles would be cutting back on his public commitments while he undergoes treatment.
Later that month, in a statement released by Buckingham Palace, the king expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the numerous messages of support and well wishes he had received. He acknowledged that the kind thoughts and words of encouragement he had received were a source of great comfort, especially for those who have been affected by cancer.
Charles has been limiting his workload to private audiences at the palace during his health struggle. However, he did make a public appearance at the royals' Easter Mattins service in Windsor last month.
While Charles focuses on his health, other members of the royal family have been taking on additional responsibilities. For example, earlier this month, Charles asked his younger brother Prince Edward and his wife, Duchess Sophie, to assist with a Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Edward, aged 60, was recently honored with a new title as a member of the prestigious Order of the Thistle. At the same time, he has taken on additional responsibilities as a senior working royal. Meanwhile, Princess Kate Middleton, his daughter-in-law, made the decision to temporarily step back from public duties after revealing her cancer diagnosis in March.
With Edward and Kate reducing their public engagements, Prince William has been taking on more responsibilities than usual. He has been filling in for Kate and Charles at official events, while also managing the household affairs of his children. Prince George, aged 10, along with his younger siblings Princess Charlotte, aged 8, and Prince Louis, aged 5, are being cared for by Prince William as their mother undergoes preventive chemotherapy.
Earlier this week, a source exclusively shared with us that William has been feeling stressed. He feels a strong sense of duty to maintain the stability of the monarchy and reassure the public that everything will be alright. The responsibility he carries is immense.
