Lily Van Der Woodsen is excited to attend Chuck Bass' wedding, and Kelly Rutherford feels the same about Ed Westwick's upcoming nuptials.

"I miss that character, but I am still in touch with almost everyone from the show. I am going to Ed’s [Westwick] wedding and I am so excited," the Gossip Girl alum, 55, told Variety at the French TV festival Series Mania.

Rutherford, who is 55 years old, played the role of Lily Van Der Woodsen, the mother of Serena played by Blake Lively, on The CW series from 2007 to 2012. Meanwhile, Westwick, aged 36, portrayed the character of Chuck Bass.

Reflecting on the original Gossip Girl series, Rutherford mentioned that it was a time before the current era of being super politically correct. She noted that there was a different energy surrounding the show at that time, as they were just on the cusp of it. She also added that after the first season, they realized how huge the show had become.

Rutherford expressed her enthusiasm about the possibility of returning to Gossip Girl, mentioning how much she adored playing Lily, whom she described as a "fierce mum." Reflecting on her time on the show, she noted that the chic women she grew up with were different from the character of Lily, who stood out as a unique mother figure on TV. She admitted that she underestimated the love people had for Lily until later on when the focus shifted more towards the parents in the series.

Rutherford enjoys looking back on the original show’s craziest plot twists. She recalled times when they would read the script in the morning and some people would say, "I would never say this, I would never do this." However, she realized that they are all dynamic beings. Lily would make mistakes and then learn from them, and it was a big deal for her character to admit and recover from them as a parent.

Rutherford was willing to return, but Max's Gossip Girl reboot, which has now been canceled, decided to feature a completely new cast of characters. Rutherford mentioned, "I guess they thought it was just easier to create a new environment." Unfortunately, the Gossip Girl revival only lasted for 2 seasons before being canceled in 2023.

During Paris Fashion Week in September 2023, Rutherford and Westwick, who is 36 years old, were last seen together at the Lancôme x Louvre event. In a TikTok video shared by French magazine Gala, the Gossip Girl actors warmly embraced each other and had a chat with Westwick's then-girlfriend (now-fiancée), actress and model Amy Jackson.
