Kate and Oliver Hudson got a surprise when they found out their family was growing in an unexpected way. About eight years ago, they discovered they had an adopted brother. Kate, who is 45 years old, revealed this news on their podcast called "Sibling Revelry" on Monday, April 22. It turns out that their brother was put up for adoption on their dad's side, and none of them knew about it until recently.

Kate and Oliver, 47, are the children of Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson. Bill, 74, has children from other relationships and was not always present in their lives. Kate and Oliver often speak lovingly of Goldie, 78, and her longtime partner, Kurt Russell, who they affectionately call “Pa.” Goldie and Kurt, 73, have been together since 1983 and share son Wyatt Russell. (Kurt, 73, also has a son named Boston, 44, with his ex-wife Season Hubley.)

Kate mentioned that it was surprising when their half-brother, Paul, reached out to connect with them. “One of the things Paul mentioned was that he had a wonderful childhood and a happy life. He never felt the need to seek out his birth parents,” the actress shared. “It was actually his wife who was curious about his background for their children and for him. So, he let her take the lead. He told her, ‘If you want to explore this, go ahead.’”

The siblings mentioned they haven't fully gotten to know Paul yet. Oliver mentioned that Paul physically resembles a Hudson.

Oliver shared that Paul enjoys fishing, just like him. Kate added that Paul's children are creative and athletic, fitting well with the Hudson family's vibe.

Paul's musical abilities are still uncertain to the duo, but Kate jokingly mentioned that Oliver doesn't have much musical talent. Oliver defended himself by saying, "What are you talking about? I can sing well. I don't think you give me enough credit."

Kate and Oliver shared on their podcast about how they found out about their half-brother Paul. Oliver recalled finding a note under his door one day saying, "My name is Paul. I’d love to have a conversation with you." They were surprised to learn that Paul, who lives in Utah, is their half-brother. Their father had him when he was 16 and had to give him up for adoption.

Oliver mentioned that with the help of 23andMe, he and Kate found out that they might have another half-sibling. They are currently trying to figure this out. Kate shared that Paul decided to give the note to Oliver because he thought Oliver would handle it better. Ironically, Oliver's reaction was, "I can't deal with this."

Oliver revealed that he tried to trick Paul by having a friend call pretending to be his assistant, but Paul saw through the ruse. Kate joked, "The first thing he said was, 'Yeah, I guess your brother's assistant - she said she was his assistant - but it didn't sound very professional.' That's when I knew he was onto us!"

Kate also mentioned reconnecting with her other siblings besides Paul. On a podcast episode in January, she shared, "Last year, I had a moment where I realized I should be in touch with my other siblings." She specifically mentioned Bill's children: Emily, Zachary, and Lalania. Kate emphasized, "I don't care about our family history. I have two sisters that I haven't spoken to, and it's only because our family is separated."

During a phone call with her sister, Kate shared that they both began crying. She mentioned that it was a great moment and her sister even said, "We start now."

The discovery of an unknown sibling brought a mix of surprise and joy to Kate and Oliver Hudson. The revelation, which came from their adopted brother Paul, highlighted the complex and often unpredictable nature of family bonds. Despite the distance and lack of previous contact, the siblings expressed a genuine desire to connect and embrace their newfound relationship.

The article also sheds light on the importance of family history and the search for one's roots. Paul's decision to reach out to his biological siblings was driven by his wife's curiosity and a desire to provide a fuller understanding of his past for their children. This act underscores the enduring power of family connections, even across generations and despite past estrangements.
