After nearly a year since starting his journey from South Africa, Russ Cook arrived at the Tunisian coast on Sunday, marking the end of his incredible adventure.
Throughout his expedition, the endurance athlete known as the 'Hardest Geezer' has encountered challenges such as injuries, illnesses, logistical issues, and even getting lost in the jungle. Despite these obstacles, he successfully completed his goal of running the entire length of Africa, covering a distance of over 10,000 miles.
The UK runner was accompanied by numerous fans for the last part of his journey on Sunday. Many of them had traveled from different parts of the world to join in the festivities.
Cook has been backed by a dedicated team throughout his run, gaining a large following on social media and raising over $965,000 for various charities. A team of editors has been documenting his adventure on YouTube, with the channel having more than 187,000 subscribers.
Cook spoke with CNN Sport at the beginning of his mission, starting on April 22, 2023. He expressed his confidence in facing the challenges ahead and vowed to take each day as it came. In reality, he had no idea of the obstacles that awaited him.

Cook and his team overcame a plethora of challenges that might have threatened the mission, including being robbed at gunpoint and getting lost in the rainforest.
He also faced a diplomatic impasse as he neared the end of his run, eventually acquiring the visas which allowed him to pass through to Algeria from Mauritania.

Cook initially planned to complete the mission of running 360 marathons in 240 days before Christmas. Although he took a bit longer than expected, his accomplishment is still remarkable.
