In Doctor Who, there has been a suggestion of a romantic relationship between companions Tegan and Nyssa from the 1980s, potentially contradicting a previous retcon in the Jodie Whittaker era. In Russell T Davies' special webisode "Farewell, Sarah Jane," Tegan and Nyssa's relationship is revealed, despite the complications of Nyssa being left in the future and Tegan in the past. However, fans were disappointed when this romance was not acknowledged in Tegan's return in "The Power of the Doctor." In the new webisode "The Passenger," Tegan and Nyssa are reunited in a dream sequence, hinting at a possible romantic reunion in the future of Doctor Who.

Doctor Who Reaffirms The Tegan & Nyssa Romance Theories (Again)

On micro-blogging platforms such as Tumblr and various social media sites, a passionate community of Doctor Who fans strongly believed in a romantic connection between Tegan and Nyssa. The evidence supporting this theory was the fact that they shared a bedroom in the TARDIS while traveling with the Fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davison. Rumours suggest that he has chosen Neil Patrick Harris to portray The Celestial Toymaker for the 60th anniversary, and he is also bringing back Bonnie Langford as Melanie Bush alongside Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson in Doctor Who season 14.

While RTD's remark about putting The Nyssa Adventures on Disney+ was clearly a joke, and his nod to a relationship between Nyssa and Tegan was a sly comment, he holds the power to turn it all into reality. Given the return of Mel and the introduction of Beep the Meep on-screen, it is evident that anything can happen in RTD's new era.
