Warner Bros. Discovery has reportedly scrapped J.J. Abrams' Constantine TV show, adding to the list of failed DC projects.
As part of Abrams' Justice League Dark franchise, the reboot of Constantine in modern-day London had four scripts written and a potential lead actor in discussions.
Warner Bros. Discovery has reportedly canceled J.J. Abrams' Constantine TV show, adding it to the list of DC projects that have been scrapped. This decision comes as Warner Bros. Discovery focuses on their upcoming DC Universe movies and TV shows from James Gunn and Peter Safran in order to create a more interconnected franchise based on the DC Comics characters. Over the past few months, there have been updates about other projects being put on hold to support this goal.
The Constantine TV series, which was supposed to be part of Abrams' Justice League Dark franchise, is now the latest cancellation for the studio. Variety reports that Abrams had already written four scripts for the reboot and was in talks with a lead actor for the role. The show was set to take place in contemporary London. It is uncertain if the Madame X show, which was intended to be set in the same universe as Constantine and focus on Madame Xanadu, has also been scrapped after being pitched to other outlets.
Why The Constantine Show May Have Been Cancelled
The cancellation of the Constantine reboot does not come as a surprise considering various factors. Firstly, despite Matt Ryan's portrayal of Constantine on NBC, there have been no significant developments in the proposed Justice League Dark franchise by Abrams, which was supposed to span both film and TV. Furthermore, despite being under an overall deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, no progress has been made in this regard.
The announcement of Constantine 2 moving forward has essentially doomed the reboot show, as the studio is prioritizing a sequel featuring Keanu Reeves' portrayal of the character from 2005. While Constantine 2's release date and production start are uncertain due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, it takes precedence over a reboot TV show based on a franchise that appears to be stagnant.
It is highly likely that all of Abrams' projects for his Justice League Dark universe have been effectively canceled, even if the studio has not made this public. Gunn and Safran may have the opportunity to adapt Justice League Dark in their DC Universe, including their version of Constantine. Until the creative team shares any information, speculation will continue regarding the fate of the Constantine reboot.

As a fan of the Constantine character and the DC Universe, I am disappointed to hear that the JJ Abrams' Constantine Remake Show has been canceled. I was excited about the prospect of a new Constantine TV show, especially one set in modern-day London and as part of the Justice League Dark franchise.
The cancellation of the Constantine TV show is a huge disappointment for fans of the character and the DC Universe. The show had a lot of potential, and it's a shame that we won't get to see it come to fruition. I hope that Warner Bros. Discovery will reconsider their decision and give the show a chance.
