Jinger Duggar's wardrobe has expanded as she no longer adheres to the strict dress code imposed during her upbringing. Her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, recently posted a photo on Instagram showcasing Jinger's transformation, as she confidently rocks a black tank top and ripped jeans – an outfit that would not have been allowed by her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. Captioned "Summer summer summertime," the picture captures Jinger's radiant smile, complemented by sunglasses and sneakers.
Jim, aged 57, and Michelle, aged 56, became well-known through their TLC show 19 Kids and Counting, where they shared their lives with the world. One notable aspect of their upbringing was their emphasis on their daughters dressing modestly, which meant they were not allowed to wear pants. Jinger, one of their daughters, revealed these strict rules in her book The Hope We Hold: Finding Peace in the Promises of God. In her book, she explained that their mother always dressed them in skirts and dresses, as it was based on the biblical verse Deuteronomy 22:5, which states that "A woman shall not wear a man's garment."
The Duggar family traditions came to light in the Amazon Prime Video documentary, Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, which premiered in June. Featuring Jinger's sister Jill Duggar and her husband Derick Dillard, the limited series delved into the family's controversies, including their association with the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP) teachings and the sexual assault allegations against Josh Duggar, as well as his subsequent arrest in 2021 on child pornography charges. Currently, Josh, aged 35, is serving a prison sentence of over 12 years in Texas following his conviction in 2022.
Jill, aged 32, shared her reasons for breaking away from her family's customs.
"As time goes by, you begin to make choices of your own. For example, I decided to get a nose ring, and it's a process. Gradually, step by step... you start doing what is necessary to regain control of your life," Jill explained, alluding to the fact that her father used to be responsible for making decisions for the extended family.
Jill’s parents criticized the documentary, condemning it as "derogatory" in a statement published on their website. They expressed their disappointment with the current state of entertainment, stating that the documentary portrays many individuals and situations in a negative and sensationalized manner. Jim and Michelle also emphasized that despite the challenges they have faced, their faith has been a source of strength, comfort, and purpose, thanks to the love and grace of Jesus.
