Jennifer Aniston and Jon Hamm preferred to film their sex scene on The Morning Show without any additional assistance.

“Having [director] Mimi [Leder] there, you’re protected,” Aniston, 54, told Variety in a Monday, December 11, cover story. “I never felt uncomfortable. Jon was such a gentleman, always — I mean every move, every cut, ‘You OK?’ It was also very choreographed. That’s the beauty of Mimi and our gorgeous editor, the music and lighting.”

During an October episode of the Apple TV+ series, UBA anchor Alex Levy (played by Aniston) conducted an interview with tech giant Paul Marks (played by Hamm), who was attempting to acquire UBA. Tension had been building between Alex and Paul for several episodes before Alex confronted the billionaire about allegations of exploiting a Stanford University student. Despite this, Paul managed to present himself as a changed man, and after the interview, Alex and Paul ended up sleeping together.

“Do you not prepare at all?” Aniston went on. “They asked us if we wanted an intimacy coordinator. I’m old-fashioned, so I was like, ‘What’s that supposed to mean?’ They said, ‘Someone making sure you’re comfortable,’ and I was like, ‘Come on, this is already awkward enough!’ We’re professionals — we can handle this. And we had Mimi there.”

Following the episode's release, Leder informed Variety that the cast and crew made sure the sex scene was both tasteful and essential to the story.

“It was a closed set, and two very mature actors who truly grasped the storytelling aspect and were fully invested,” the director explained. “Our goal was for it to be sensitive, sexy, and mature, while also evoking an emotional response. They really embraced it. They're excellent actors. And that's the result.”

The tenderness of the intimate moment did not last for long. Eventually, Paul's true nature came to light. By the end of the season, it was exposed that he had been spying on Alex and her coworkers, and he ultimately extorted Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon).

"Was he really a snake, or was that just his true self?" Aniston questioned about Hamm's character. "I don't believe he did it on purpose. He is just being himself. But it was enjoyable. I have known the Hammanator for a very long time."

When Witherspoon, 47, asked how they met, Aniston revealed it was through a mutual friend — Paul Rudd — about “12 years ago.”

Witherspoon discovered that she also crossed paths with Hamm thanks to the Ant-Man actor. "Paul Rudd is his agent. I'm not joking!" she quipped. "I worked on a movie with Paul Rudd in 1996, and that's where I first met Jon Hamm."
