Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry had been in touch on the day of his passing. The "Friends" costars, who had remained close since the series ended in 2004, exchanged text messages just hours before Perry's death at the age of 54 in October, Aniston shared in an interview with Variety.
"I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty," she said. "He was not in pain. He wasnt struggling."
A cause of death is still pending for Perry.
Aniston said she hoped people will reflect on her friends life, "As he said hed love to be remembered."
"He was happy. He was healthy," she said. "He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape."
Perry had openly discussed his previous battle with substance abuse, but Aniston revealed that he was making significant progress before his passing.
"I want everyone to know that he was in a good place, actively working towards bettering himself. He put in so much effort," she expressed. "He faced some really tough challenges. I miss him immensely. We all do. Man, he could always make us laugh."
Aniston and the rest of the "Friends" cast wrote heartfelt messages for their former co-star and close friend. She expressed being deeply moved by the numerous people Perry had touched. "It's incredibly touching," she shared. "I hope he realizes how much he was loved, even more than he realized."
