Country music artist Jelly Roll is having a hell of a year.

Having emerged victorious in the inaugural Peoples Choice Country Awards and securing a nomination for the prestigious best new artist Grammy, this individual has undeniably become a favorite of the awards season. However, it was his deeply moving acceptance speech at the 2023 CMA Awards, following his triumph in the new artist of the year category, that truly captivated countless hearts. Drawing attention to this somewhat poetic occurrence of a 39-year-old man clinching the new artist of the year accolade, he struck a chord with many.

"I don't know where you are in life or what you're going through, but I want to encourage you to keep going. I want you to know that success is waiting for you on the other side," he declared, amidst the roaring applause from the live audience at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. "I want to reassure you that everything will be alright! I want you to understand that the windshield is larger than the rearview mirror for a purpose, because what lies ahead of you is far more significant than what's left behind!" The internet wasted no time in seizing the moment, adding gospel music to the video clip to enhance its inspirational impact.

That seemed fitting since Jelly Roll began his career in rap before transitioning into country rock. To learn more about his journey, you can watch his documentary "Jelly Roll: Save Me" on Hulu. His later success and change in genre serve as undeniable evidence that the path to success varies for everyone.

Even the incident where he accidentally dropped and shattered his CMA Award teaches a valuable life lesson.

"I felt immense excitement as I swung around, eagerly offering it to someone. It was like I was passing it around as if it were a bag of popcorn," he shared with "Entertainment Tonight." "I've been allowing everyone, just like a bag of potatoes, as if we were all sharing it. I feel remorseful. Oh God."

The moral of the story is to take things slower and understand that possessions can be replaced, while memories endure for a lifetime. Here's to Jelly Roll breaking records in the future - but not receiving awards.

One thing to talk about…

Not only should we rejoice in the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike, but also in a significant change benefiting actors of color.

For an extended period, Black actors have voiced concerns about discriminatory hair and makeup regulations on set that failed to consider different hair textures and a variety of skin tones.

The new actors' union contract, as reported by The Guardian, encompasses "new terms aimed at guaranteeing appropriate hair and makeup for all performers, including those with diverse hair textures and complexions," as stated by chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland. This marks a significant stride towards fostering diversity in Hollywood.

A few months back, I had the opportunity to discuss Dolly Parton's fashion-focused book, "Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones," as well as her remarkable style legacy.

Additionally, I had the privilege of conversing with her about her recently released album. However, recalling her precise words proves challenging as I was completely enthralled by the surreal experience of conversing with the one and only Dolly Parton.

"Rockstar" is an exceptional project that showcases collaborations with a myriad of talented artists such as Sting, Miley Cyrus, Steve Perry, and Lizzo. From contemporary chart-toppers to timeless classics, the album features remarkable covers. Notably, it includes a captivating rendition of Prince's iconic "Purple Rain."

The only missing element that would have elevated the experience further was Prince himself performing alongside her. The highly anticipated release of "Rockstar" took place on Friday.

A scene with Al Capone in "How to Become a Mob Boss."

Netflix

Please know that if there is mafia-related content, I want to watch it.

Which is why I was all over "How to Become a Mob Boss" on Netflix.

Netflix's description of the docuseries states, "Narrated by Peter Dinklage, this darkly satirical how-to guide delves into the turbulent lives of infamous mob bosses like Al Capone and Pablo Escobar, offering insights into their strategies for success." The show cleverly juxtaposes the cutthroat world of organized crime with the concept of climbing the corporate ladder, a profession that people have literally risked their lives for.

Its streaming now on Netflix.
