Lt. James T. Kirk's whereabouts in the finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 are uncertain. It is believed that he may be back on the USS Farragut or taking some time off to deal with his complicated relationship with Carol Marcus. His absence is unexpected considering his original purpose of shadowing Captain Pike to learn about leadership.
Where Is Kirk In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2's Finale?
James T. Kirk, from Star Trek's Prime Timeline, appeared in a total of three episodes during the second season of Strange New Worlds. In episode 3, titled "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow," Kirk made a brief cameo when Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh contacted him on the USS Farragut. Then, in episode 5, "Lost in Translation," Kirk officially joined the crew of the Starship Enterprise and assisted Ensign Nyota Uhura in unraveling the mystery of Bannon's Nebula. However, Kirk's involvement didn't stop there, as he later participated in the crew's musical episode, showcasing his singing and dancing skills. Unfortunately, Kirk was absent from the Enterprise during the Gorn crisis in the season 2 finale. In the finale of Season 2 of Strange New Worlds, it is likely that Lt. James T. Kirk has returned to the USS Farragut. Having been promoted to First Officer, Kirk now holds the title of the youngest Number One in Starfleet, surpassing the record set by his father, Lt. Commander George Kirk. Nevertheless, there is another possibility: Kirk might be taking some time off on shore leave. Recently, he shared with La'an the news that his girlfriend, Carol Marcus, with whom he has had an on-again/off-again relationship, is expecting a child. Perhaps after the peculiar experience of the musical event in Strange New Worlds, during which the crew of the Enterprise openly expressed their innermost emotions through song, Kirk decided to take a break and address the complexities of his relationship with Carol.
Can Kirk Rescue Pike's Enterprise In Strange New Worlds Season 3 Without Breaking Star Trek Canon?
: It is quite surprising that Kirk did not join the Enterprise in the finale of season 2 of Strange New Worlds. Especially considering that James being on the Federation flagship in the musical of Strange New Worlds was meant to shadow Captain Pike and learn the intricacies of command. One would expect Kirk's temporary transfer to be more than just one episode, as there is much more he could have learned from Pike as a Captain and Number One as a First Officer. However, it is possible that the Farragut cannot spare their new Number One for an extended period of time, or perhaps Kirk chose to return to his home starship instead of getting involved in the next unusual situation that the Enterprise may encounter. Nonetheless, Pike and the Enterprise would certainly benefit from Kirk's assistance in their Gorn crisis. It is highly likely that Lt. Kirk and the USS Farragut received a distress call regarding Pike and the Enterprise's urgent situation with the Gorn. In the premiere of Strange New Worlds season 3, Kirk might rush to their aid. However, whether the unknown Captain of the Farragut agrees to go against orders and assist the Enterprise as their cavalry against the Gorn remains uncertain. Provided that Kirk does not personally encounter or directly interact with the Gorn, it would still maintain the continuity of Star Trek: The Original Series. To uphold this possibility, Kirk may choose to remain aboard the Farragut or solely transport onto the Enterprise.
Kirk would most likely be eager to assist his new allies aboard the Enterprise, particularly upon learning that La'an has been abducted by the Gorn. Despite acknowledging their shared attraction, Kirk remained faithful to Carol. Lt. Kirk swiftly became a highly valued recurring character in season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and it's certain that James would be warmly received if he were to undertake a rescue mission for Pike and the Enterprise in season 3.
