Committing to the role. Over the years, actors have filmed nude scenes and decided to wear body prosthetics instead of completely exposing themselves on screen.
Eric Dane, known for his role as Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, previously discussed the challenges of working on sensitive scenes in the project. He emphasized the importance of having a trustworthy individual to confide in and advocate for the actors, which helps create a safe and comfortable environment. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in June 2019, the Grey's Anatomy alum stated that these scenes are particularly difficult to shoot, including the intense scene in the pilot episode.
In the pilot episode, Cal meets up with Jules, who is underage, after connecting on a dating app. Despite not having any issues with nudity, Jacobs explained that the decision to use a prosthetic penis was made collectively.
At the time, Jacobs expressed his willingness to do anything necessary for the story and to authentically depict how the events unfold. He believed that it would be difficult to film a scene of such magnitude without including nudity. The intense nature of the storyline called for leaving nothing to the imagination.
In the second season of the HBO Max series, Cal once again exposed himself, this time after coming out to his family about his sexuality. In a rather shocking scene, he ended up urinating all over his foyer, for which Dane had to wear a prosthetic. Reflecting on the experience, Cal jokingly remarked to Men's Health in January 2022 that performing a monologue with one's penis out can be liberating and hoped that the show would help people become more at ease with their own bodies.
Meanwhile, Jacob Elordi, who plays Dane’s TV son, also shared his experience of having to expose himself in explicit sex scenes on the show Euphoria.
Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in March 2022, the actor explained, "Every scene is like, 'He sleeps with this person. He does this with this person naked.' On Euphoria, it's part of the character's nature. He portrays an ultra-masculine, macho jock, and typically, these types of guys tend to walk around with their shirts off, so it's somewhat acceptable."

Celebrities Who Wore NSFW Prosthetic Body Parts On Screen: Eric Dane, Adam Demos and More
Content: Working on such a vulnerable part of the project, actors have chosen to don body prosthetics instead of exposing themselves completely on screen. Eric Dane, who portrays Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, has revealed the dedication required for committing to this role.
"It's incredibly challenging to film those scenes. Having a single voice guiding you, someone you can confide in and who advocates for the actors, is a tremendous help," expressed the former Grey's Anatomy actor to Entertainment Weekly in June 2019. "This simplifies many aspects and creates a safe, comfortable environment, especially when shooting something as uncomfortable as this. The pilot scene, in particular, is extremely intense."
In the pilot episode, Cal is depicted meeting an underage Jules (Hunter Schafer) after connecting on a dating app. While Jacobs didn't have reservations about nudity, the decision to wear a prosthetic penis was a collective one.
"I am fully committed to undertaking any role that is essential to the narrative and integral to achieving an authentic and honest portrayal of the story," he expressed. "I find it difficult to envision capturing such a scene without incorporating nudity. Additionally, it aligns with the heightened intensity of the situation. The stakes are incredibly high, leaving no room for holding back." In the second season of the HBO Max series, Cal once again bared himself following the revelation of his sexuality to his family. Eventually, he urinated throughout his entrance hall—an additional scene in which Dane utilized a prosthetic."
In January 2022, he humorously shared with Men's Health the liberating experience of performing a monologue while exposed. He expressed his desire for everyone to feel more at ease with their bodies following the show.
Additionally, Dane's on-screen son Jacob Elordi also expressed his thoughts on having to bare all for explicit sex scenes on Euphoria.
"During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in March 2022, the star of The Kissing Booth shared that every scene he participates in involves intimate interactions, such as sleeping with someone or being naked with someone. In the case of Euphoria, these scenes are essential for the character portrayal, as he plays an ultra-masculine, macho jock. According to him, such guys are often seen shirtless, so it is justified."

Sarah Shahi ('Sex/Life')
In June 2023, the actress verified that specific sequences in Sex/Life necessitated the use of prosthetic breasts due to her character's physical transformation.
"These were not my breasts ... it took approximately 3 to 4 hours every morning for our prosthetics team to apply them. I wore them during any intimate scene with Cooper or whenever I needed to depict breastfeeding," she wrote on her Instagram Story, along with a behind-the-scenes photo. "Look closely - that's silicone glue."
Shahi explained her use of prosthetics to "Not Skinny But Not Fat" podcast host Amanda Hirsch via Instagram DM, stating, "I used them for the Cooper sex scenes and baby. Those were my breasts in the Brad scenes because they were in the past. They weren't my breastfeeding boobs. Does that make sense?"

Jonathan Sadowski (‘Sex/Life’)
In the second season of Sex/Life, which debuted in March 2023, Sadowski's character, Devon, had a noteworthy moment when he confidently displayed his genitals in a locker room scene. This occurred as he proudly discussed the enhanced appearance resulting from reconstructive surgery following a car accident. Casey Hudecki, the intimacy coordinator for Sex/Life, shared that Sadowski approached the scene with enthusiasm and found it amusing. She mentioned that he underwent a complete prosthetic procedure preceding and following the locker room scene.
Creator Stacy Rukeyser, however, refrained from verifying whether Sadowski employed an artificial phallus during the crucial moment. "I can't say for certain if it's a prosthetic," she playfully hinted in an interview with Variety in March 2023. "Our lips will forever remain sealed."

Theo James (‘The White Lotus’)
The England native performed a full-frontal scene in the season 2 premiere of The White Lotus. In this scene, his character Cameron exposed himself in front of his wife's friend Harper (Aubrey Plaza).
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in December 2022, James confessed, "When it comes to these scenes, you have discussions with the director and producers. They informed me that we would be using a prosthetic, something to cover up. It was a prosthetic for the private area... I told the makeup artist that I wanted it to look natural and not draw attention. The focus of the scene is not on the private area, but rather the power dynamics in the sexual encounter, whether intentional or accidental."

Chace Crawford ('The Boys')
In June 2022, the former Gossip Girl actor disclosed that he had utilized a prosthetic phallus for the controversial poster, which was subsequently modified due to the noticeable bulge. "We receive minimal feedback from Amazon, but the first we received was that it couldn't happen, and we had to remove it," Crawford stated in an interview with Daily Mail Australia. He was referencing a 2019 promotional image of his character, The Deep, that had to be edited.

Taylor Zakhar Perez ('Minx')
In the HBO Max series Minx, Perez stars as Shane, a firefighter who takes on a new career as a model featured in a provocative women's magazine. The actor seamlessly dons a prosthetic to embody the character.
"I'm fully supportive of it. If the project and the scenes require it, why not?" Perez shared with Entertainment Weekly in February 2022. "However, if there is no logical reason to include a partially nude woman or a man exposing their rear in a scene, then it becomes excessive and diminishes the overall quality of the content."
The actor from Red, White and Royal Blue further mentioned, "Although I must admit, it will make me a bit anxious when my mother watches it."

Lily James and Sebastian Stan ('Pam and Tommy')
James and Stan, who portrayed Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee respectively in the Hulu series, were both adorned in prosthetic genitalia. The actress from Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again revealed that she devoted a significant four-hour period for makeup application prior to shooting.
Stan engages in a full-fledged dialogue with his genitalia, a voice provided by Jason Mantzoukas. Operating the mechanical prosthetic necessitated the involvement of two puppeteers.
Kameron Lennox, the costume designer, observed that the Marvel actor had to don prosthetics even when sporting a silk G-string during his character's movements. However, the prosthetics designed for on-camera use failed to aesthetically complement the costume.
"Upon inserting his prosthetic into the G-string, it became apparent that he was visibly afflicted with significant health concerns," Lennox conveyed to Thrillist. Special makeup effects designer Jason Collins, along with his company Autonomous FX, ingeniously crafted a "garment penis" for scenes requiring clothing, while Lennox utilized "packers," a form of stuffing, for various other scenes.

When asked about the portrayal of this scene, the actor opened up in March 2023 during an interview with The Project TV. They stated, "Yes, it is indeed a prosthetic. It brings me a sense of relief knowing that. And for all the concerned men out there, rest assured, it was."
