In October 2021, just three weeks after giving birth, Nev Schulman's wife shared a post that she referred to as an "obligatory postpartum thirst trap." In her Instagram post, Perlongo explained that while she was sharing a flattering angle, she also wanted to acknowledge the physical realities that come with childbirth. She mentioned having loose skin on her belly, incredibly sore nipples, unidentified groin pain, strange sores from the large pads, and clumps of hair that turn her showers into potential hazards. Despite these challenges, she emphasized the upside: a continued appreciation for the amazing things bodies can do, like creating new life, and occasionally feeling attractive and powerful in the sweaty and transitional fourth trimester. Perlongo questioned whether it was allowed to embrace these positive feelings or if she was expected to only showcase her worst angles, admitting her uncertainty about the rules surrounding this topic.

"That's not my current story. If you've been following me because you're also a parent and you appreciate what I'm doing, just know that I'm here for you. I will never have my 'pre-baby body back' regardless of any physical changes, as I've now become a mother! ... That transformation is permanent. And I don't desire to return to my previous state! However, in the interest of being honest, I'm truly exhausted and not a superhuman—this is extremely challenging."
