Jason Mewes isn’t betting against longtime pal Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage.
"I would be really surprised," said Mewes, 49, in an interview with TMZ on Wednesday, May 22. He was asked if he thought Affleck, 51, and Lopez, 54, would break up.
Mewes and Affleck have been friends for years, having worked together in movies like Dogma and Chasing Amy in the ‘90s. Mewes even attended Affleck and Lopez’s wedding in South Carolina in August 2022.
Mewes admitted to feeling sentimental as he shared with the outlet about witnessing the interactions between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez at their wedding. He recalled the heartfelt singing moment, emphasizing the sincerity and authenticity of their connection after two decades together.
Although Mewes mentioned that he has not stayed in contact with Affleck since the wedding, he expressed doubt regarding the rumors about Affleck moving out of their Beverly Hills home due to marital issues.
"He might be busy with work and she's also busy with work, on top of taking care of the kids," he mentioned. "I'm not saying that's the reason - I'm not sure."
On Thursday, May 16, a source revealed to We that Affleck and Lopez have been experiencing difficulties in their relationship for the past few months. The issues reportedly started when Lopez began increasing her work commitments and preparing for her upcoming tour.
Another source mentioned that Lopez checked out a potential investment property in L.A., while a third insider mentioned that Affleck had actually moved out of their shared home "several weeks ago."
On a different note, another insider mentioned that the couple currently has no intentions of separating.
Affleck and Lopez have not directly addressed the rumors of trouble in paradise, but they both continue to wear their wedding rings. On Tuesday, May 15, Affleck was spotted with his wedding band while dining out in Santa Monica. Meanwhile, Lopez was attending the Mexico City premiere of her new Netflix sci-fi movie, Atlas, without him by her side.
The couple, famously known as Bennifer, first started dating in the early 2000s when they met on the set of Gigli. Affleck proposed in 2002, but they called off their engagement over a year later.
Then, in 2021, they rekindled the flame, to their fans’ delight, and tied the knot the following year.
Affleck’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, is rooting for the two to stay together.
Garner, who is 52 years old, is giving Ben advice on improving his relationship with Jen. According to a source who spoke exclusively to We on Tuesday, March 21, Garner fully backs their relationship and just wants Ben to be happy.
