Jason Isbell wants to clarify that he did not cheat on his estranged wife Amanda Shires. In an Instagram statement on Wednesday, April 3, the 45-year-old musician emphasized that his manager, business manager, tour manager, tour assistant, and both publicists are all women. He expressed gratitude for each of them and stated that there has never been any romantic relationship between them.
The Americana singer urged his followers not to spread false and misogynistic stories about his colleagues online as if they were true. He emphasized the challenges faced by those who are not straight white men in the industry.
He expressed his concern about individuals contacting his coworkers and accusing them of being responsible for "breaking up a family." He made a clear plea for people to stop engaging in such behavior.
Isbell filed for divorce from Shires in December 2023 after a decade of marriage, as reported by The Los Angeles Times. They tied the knot in 2013 and have a daughter named Mercy, who is 8 years old. The couple also worked together on various music projects.
Prior to their separation, Isbell and Shires, aged 42, openly discussed how the challenges and joys in their relationship influenced the songs they wrote for their album Reunions, released in 2020.
Isbell shared with the New York Times in May 2020 that at one point, he expressed that it would have been simpler if someone had cheated. He explained that in that scenario, they could clearly point fingers and assign blame. However, the situation was more complex as they felt like strangers, unable to communicate effectively.

During the recording process, Shires mentioned that Isbell was "impossible" to work with. She added that it seemed like he wanted help, but at the same time, he didn't.
Two months after filing for divorce, Isbell shared how he was doing after the breakup.
During a February interview on the “Broken Records” podcast, he expressed, “I can still share who I am and my truth from my perspective. Not everything that ends is a failure, you know? We did many beautiful things together, and I cherish those memories. Even the tough times, I have no regrets.”
Isbell shared that accepting the breakup was reminiscent of his journey to sobriety, which began after an intervention in 2012.
Reflecting on his experience, he disclosed, "It's like when I entered recovery, eventually I looked back and realized that I don't regret even the toughest moments because they all contribute to shaping who I am. There will come a time when the pain isn't as raw, a time when I can incorporate all of this into my music in a genuine and meaningful way that resonates with me."
