Australian golfer Jason Day has been drawing attention at Augusta National this week, not for his performance on the course, but for his choice of attire. The world No. 21 disclosed on Saturday that tournament officials had requested him to refrain from wearing a particularly flashy top.

Day sported a sleeveless white, black, and red jumper on Friday, featuring the words “Malbon Golf Championship” on the front during his first round. However, when he teed off for his second round later that day, he had opted for a different outfit as per the officials' request.

Tiger Woods had his worst-ever score at the Masters, while Scottie Scheffler maintained the lead heading into the final round. During his third round, Woods mentioned that he was requested to take off his flamboyant top. He stated that he complied with the request out of respect for the tournament and the importance of focusing on playing well to potentially win the green jacket.

"They asked me to remove it and I said sure," he said.

When a reporter asked who had requested it, Day responded, "It was from Augusta National. I'm not sure if it was a green jacket or who it was. They asked politely, so I took it off."

The baggy trousers worn by the former world No. 1 have been causing a stir on social media recently. Many posts have been dedicated to his unique choice of attire during the first round of the tournament.

As of the time this was published, Augusta National had not yet responded to CNN's request for comment.

At eight over after three rounds, Day is out of contention for the green jacket. He tees off on the final day at 10.25. a.m. ET.

Editor's P/S:

Jason Day's decision to wear a flashy top at Augusta National has sparked a debate about the balance between individuality and tradition in golf. While some praised Day's boldness, others felt it detracted from the prestige of the tournament. The incident highlights the ongoing tension between personal expression and conformity in the sport.

While Augusta National has not commented on the request to Day, their dress code has long been a topic of discussion. The club's strict rules, which include a ban on tank tops and denim, have been criticized for being outdated and restrictive. However, proponents argue that the dress code maintains the historic character of the course and ensures a respectful atmosphere. It remains to be seen whether the incident will prompt Augusta National to reconsider its dress code or if it will remain a point of contention for golfers in the future.
