January Jones made some surprising realizations about the name "Jim" — and she wasn't too happy about it.
"Last night I spent a solid 30 minutes lying in bed contemplating the name Jim," Jones, 46, shared via Instagram Story on Tuesday, January 9. "It's such an odd name. It's not a nickname, and it doesn't have any significant meaning. Imagine if Rose's love interest in Titanic was named Jim, would anyone even care if he froze? Probably not."
The actress from Mad Men revealed that she eventually inquired her mother about it and learned that "Jim" is a shortened form of "James."
She expressed, "I'm angry, how did 'Jim' come from 'James'? So ridiculous. I feel embarrassed that I even thought of the word 'Jimothy' for a few minutes. I can never retrieve that time. And I apologize to the Jims. I don't mean any harm. Also, sorry to my family for my behavior."
Jones has a history of joking around with her social media followers. In August 2023, she surprised her Instagram followers by revealing that her new style was inspired by teenage boys. "I never expected to be taking fashion cues from teenage boys for my midlife crisis, but here I am," she captioned a photo of herself kneeling in the grass, wearing a baggy blue T-shirt paired with a black lace skirt and black leather platform boots.
The actress shared the photo on her Instagram Story, jokingly explaining, "My son does this pose in photos now, so I did it to imitate him. Turns out he's right, it definitely makes you look cooler."
Jones gave birth to her son Xander in 2011, but she hasn't disclosed the identity of the father.
Jones has been transparent about her life as a single parent, sharing her experiences and struggles on social media. "I parent him alone," she disclosed in an interview with We in November 2019. "I have to juggle being the good cop and the bad cop. It's not always enjoyable for me because I always want to be the fun mom. But I believe that it may take until he becomes a parent himself to truly understand and appreciate that."

The X-Men: First Class star recently shared that her son only shows interest in her fame when it benefits him. "We were at Disneyland, and he’s like, ‘Mom! Can you get fast passes and tell everyone you’re an actress?’ I was like, ‘No! This is the deal. This is what it’s like,'" she explained. "It’s part of the experience. We gotta talk. We gotta hang out."
