Abbott Elementary fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief now that Janine and Gregory have finally gotten together.

In the season 3 finale that aired on Wednesday, May 22, Janine (played by Quinta Brunson) threw a party that resulted in a heartwarming moment between her and Gregory (portrayed by Tyler James Williams). Initially, the fictional couple almost missed the chance to act on their feelings because Gregory mistakenly thought Janine was in a relationship with Manny (played by Josh Segarra). However, Janine made the decision to pursue a future with Gregory just as he returned to her apartment.

Gregory looked at the camera with intensity, then kissed Janine with passion. He then closed the window shade to ensure privacy inside the apartment.

After the episode was shown, Williams, who is 31 years old, stated that there was no turning back now that Janine and Gregory are moving forward with their relationship.

The actor mentioned that the characters will have to face the consequences of their decision. They haven't considered all the possible outcomes yet. Instead, they have been hopeful that everything will turn out well. However, there will be challenges and uncertainties for them to navigate as they embrace their emotions for the first time. Season 4 will delve into the repercussions of this new development.

Williams also addressed his past comments about how he wanted Janine and Gregory to just stay friends.

I have to admit, I wasn't being completely honest. I already knew what was going to happen in the finale, but I was giving out misleading information. People kept asking me about Janine and Gregory, and I would just say, "Oh, they should just be friends." But the truth is, I was eagerly waiting for this moment just like everyone else. It's tough not to give away any spoilers in a world full of them.

I'm the type of person who finds it hard to hide my emotions on my face. Every time someone asked me about Janine and Gregory being romantically involved, I tried my best to hide the fact that I knew what was coming. I'm actually looking forward to seeing where their relationship goes. It's been a bit up and down for a while now, but I can finally fully embrace the feelings that Gregory has been holding back for some time.

In 2021, Abbott Elementary premiered, showcasing the lives of teachers at a make-believe Philadelphia public school. After a lengthy build-up spanning two seasons, Gregory finally revealed his long-held feelings for Janine, his colleague at Abbott Elementary. Brunson, the creator of the series and also an executive producer, shared why she felt the finale was the right moment to explore a romantic storyline.

She told Deadline that it felt like the right time for season 3 to bring the two characters together after their individual growth.

In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, coshowrunner Patrick Schumacker dismissed the theory that the kiss scene wasn't real, jokingly saying, "No, it's a documentary! They don't do dream sequences in documentaries."

Schumacker mentioned that there will be some exciting changes for season 4. He expressed his hope for a longer runway and more episodes. With 22 episodes, they can explore smaller episodes focusing on individual characters or aspects in a more leisurely manner. Having more episodes allows for the opportunity to delve deeper into characters and have fun with different storylines.

Abbott Elementary has been renewed for season 4 and episodes are streaming on Hulu.
