The upcoming DC sequel Aquaman 2 will delve into the theme of family, sparking speculation about the fate of Aqua-baby. Despite its imminent release, there has been minimal buzz surrounding Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's premiere in cinemas this month.
Despite the blockbuster success of the first movie, Aquaman 2 has no promotional material at present, possibly due to the Amber Heard controversy and recent changes in the DCEU. Furthermore, rumors are now circulating about the shocking possibility of Aquaman's baby's death. But is there any truth to this?
Aquaman 2 director discusses dead baby rumors
Speculation has been rife among fans regarding the portrayal of the villain Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Rumors suggest that the character may follow a controversial comic book arc, where he kills Arthur Curry Jr., the child of Aquaman and Mera. There have even been reports of test viewers walking out upon witnessing this scene.
James Wan stated during last weekend’s CCXP in Brazil that "We’ll see. That’d be dark," in response to the question about whether the baby actually dies in Aquaman 2.
Wan is directing a script from David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and he is also producing alongside DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran.
The future of Aquaman remains uncertain, as Jason Momoa prepares to play Lobo in the new DC Universe. However, director Wan has not ruled out the possibility of a third installment in the Aquaman series. In an interview with Comic Book last year, Wan expressed that there are definitely more stories to explore with Jason Momoa's Aquaman character, hinting at the potential for a threequel. Wan also hinted at a bigger direction for the story but refrained from revealing too much to avoid spoilers.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is poised to delve into the following plot: "Failing to vanquish Aquaman in their initial encounter, Black Manta harnesses the power of the fabled Black Trident to unleash an ancient and malevolent force. In a bid to thwart his reign of terror, Aquaman forms an unlikely alliance with his brother, Orm, the former ruler of Atlantis. Putting aside their differences, they unite to safeguard their kingdom and prevent irreversible devastation to the world."

As a Gen Z netizen, I have mixed feelings about the upcoming Aquaman 2 movie. On one hand, I am excited to see the return of Jason Momoa as Aquaman and the exploration of the theme of family in the film. On the other hand, I am concerned about the potential death of Aquaman's baby, which has been rumored to happen in the movie.
I think it would be a bold and controversial move to kill off Aquaman's baby, but it could also be a powerful and emotional moment in the film. It would certainly be a memorable moment in the DCEU and could have a lasting impact on the franchise. However, I also worry that it could be seen as a cheap shock tactic and could alienate some fans. Ultimately, I think it is too early to say whether or not the baby's death is a good idea, and I will have to wait and see how it is handled in the movie.
