Dawson Leery joins in on the fun as James Van Der Beek playfully mocks Dawson's Creek alongside the fans, particularly when there's faux snow in the mix.
"Can you believe Dawson's Creek thought we wouldn't catch on?" exclaimed a social media caption that has now gained widespread attention. The caption accompanied a clip from season 6, episode 10 of the show, featuring two characters strolling on fabric cleverly designed to resemble snow.
The internet user pointed their camera at the bottom of the screen, revealing an embarrassing mistake and humorously commented that Dawson's Creek "clearly had limited funds."
Playing the lead character, Van Der Beek, 46, responded to the video with his own clever comeback.
"We must have spent all our budget on tissues," he wrote on Instagram on Thursday, October 26.
Dawson's Creek was broadcasted on The WB from 1998 to 2003 and continues to captivate new generations who are rediscovering it. (The show is currently available for streaming on Hulu.)
Fellow Dawson’s Creek star Joshua Jackson (who played Pacey Witter) has also poked fun at the show’s production value as clips make waves online decades later.
In April, Joshua Jackson, 45, talked about the popular "basketball scene" from the show during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon asked the actor the reason behind his popularity on Twitter. Jackson burst into laughter upon hearing this.
"You were trending because of a particular scene you filmed on Dawson's Creek several years ago," clarified Fallon, who was 49 at the time. "A tweet went viral about it, causing immense confusion."
During a heated confrontation in a scene from the show's first season, Pacey and Dawson find themselves embroiled in an intense argument. In an unexpected turn of events, Dawson hurls a basketball directly at Pacey's face, causing him to crumple to the ground.
After reviewing the footage, Jackson revealed, "The ball made contact with the camera right after striking my face, and the team was so delighted with the outcome that we ended up doing two or three additional takes, as far as I can recall. It seems like someone had some unresolved matters with me that they were attempting to address."
The actor clarified that the ball was never intended to behave in that manner. Upon reading the fans' in-depth analysis of this 25-year-old TV show on social media, Jackson was pleased to provide an explanation of the actual events.
According to his statement, "It was simply a beach ball disguised as a basketball that accidentally struck my face. Needless to say, it wasn't exactly a pleasant experience."
Dawson's Creek fans have longed for a reunion, but Van Der Beek dismisses the idea due to the show's unique tone. Nevertheless, he acknowledges that his crying face GIF has become an enduring internet sensation. In May, he shared his amusement, acknowledging that the internet has the power to condense his six years of work into a three-second clip.
