Jackson White's Mom Katey Sagal Opens Up About His Relationship with 'Tell Me Lies' Costar Grace Van Patten

Katey Sagal, the mother of Jackson White, provided some details about his quiet relationship with Tell Me Lies co-star Grace Van Patten. "My son is on a TV show and his girlfriend is also the lead. They play love interests and are dating in real life," Sagal, 69, shared on Rachel Bilson's "Broad Ideas" podcast on Monday, January 8. "They have been for two years."
Sagal mentioned that White and Patten, both 27, have been in a relationship "since the audition" for their roles as love interests on the popular Hulu series, and she also commented on their excellent chemistry.
Later in the podcast, Sagal described her own professional boundary with coworkers in the industry, noting that her experience was very different from her son's.
“It was simply art for us when I was in my late 40s and 50s. It was all about the story we were portraying on screen,” she told Bilson, 42, who dated her O.C. love interest Adam Brody throughout the show’s four-season run from 2003 to 2007. “I believe that sometimes, when you are younger, it can lead to [more].”
Jackson White portrays Stephen and Grace Van Patten plays Lucy in the Hulu series 'Tell Me Lies.' The show is based on Carola Lovering's novel and follows the story of a toxic relationship between college students Stephen and Lucy and its impact on those around them. In the first season, Sagal starred as Stephen's mother.
During the project promotion, White and Patten were evasive about their relationship status.
“I can only say that I admire her tremendously because she's incredible. Our lives are intertwined. It's unbelievable, we have so many plans together,” White shared during an episode of the "Not Skinny But Not Fat" podcast in October 2022.
"She is the most extraordinary, down-to-earth person you'll ever meet in real life," he continued. "She was the bold leader on our show. At 25 years old, she runs a set with the expertise of someone with 30 years of experience. She is consistently excellent at what she does."
Patten has also playfully hinted at her relationship with White, much to the delight of fans.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in November 2022, she encouraged fans to embrace the mystery and have fun speculating about the show's future. She expressed enthusiasm for the engaging and hilarious discussions surrounding the show. Despite production delays caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Tell Me Lies was renewed for a second season and filming is scheduled to begin later this year.

Patten and White have been chronicling their experiences in New York and Los Angeles. They have made appearances at multiple red carpet events following the release of Tell Me Lies and have posted intimate photos on their social media accounts.
In a November 2022 Instagram post, Patten captioned a selfie of her and White with the words, "Just in the nick of time."
