Jack Quaid Dishes on Baring It All for The Boys Season 3

Jack Quaid, portraying Hughie Campbell in The Boys, shares candid reflections on his decision to film nude scenes in season 3, drawing inspiration from a beloved superhero Find out what motivated Quaid to embrace these daring moments in the upcoming season

Jack Quaid, renowned for his role as Hughie Campbell, the supe exterminator in Amazon's hit series The Boys, recently shared his thoughts on the experience of filming numerous naked scenes for the show's upcoming third season. These scenes were a result of Campbell's decision to take Temporary V, a hazardous substance that granted him the temporary ability to teleport effortlessly. However, as a twist, Campbell could only teleport organic matter, leading to him disrobing each time he utilized his newfound powers. With candor, Quaid disclosed the reasoning behind his choice to embrace nudity throughout several episodes of The Boys.

In a recent interview with DiscussingFilm, Quaid enthusiastically discussed his enjoyment of Hughie's newly acquired abilities and also revealed the Marvel superhero who served as inspiration for his daring nudity in The Boys. "I absolutely loved the fact that Hughie's temptation towards the dark side was all thanks to Temp V, and it was genuinely thrilling to explore playing a character with superpowers," he expressed. "Although I did have to disrobe for a significant portion of the scenes, it was definitely a worthwhile exchange because Nightcrawler happens to be one of my all-time favorite X-Men, and getting naked for Nightcrawler powers was a dream come true!"

Nightcrawler's ability to teleport without losing his clothes adds to the clever satire of Hughie's acquisition of powers in The Boys. Unlike the tamer Marvel comics, The Boys, being a brutally honest interpretation of superheroes, allows Hughie to teleport naked. This adds to the humor, as even with dangerous superpowers, Hughie still comes across as a doofus.

Despite the comedic elements, it becomes clear that taking Temporary V presents problems for Hughie. The drug makes him more malicious, jeopardizing his relationship with Annie and hindering his ability to make amends with those who have wronged him, such as A-Train. Although Hughie's initial justification is to save Annie and assist Billy Butcher in exposing Vought, it becomes evident that his desire for increased power plays a larger role, despite the fact that the drug is toxic and would eventually kill him if he continued taking it.

Despite Hughie's decision to stop taking Temporary V, his situation may not be completely resolved. Unlike Hughie, Butcher's repeated use of the drug has led to a terminal diagnosis. Nevertheless, Hughie himself has also taken the drug multiple times, causing independent side effects that may continue to affect his physical well-being. Moreover, even if he no longer uses Temporary V, there is a possibility that Hughie could encounter further negative consequences or be tempted to acquire superpowers again if the opportunity arises. This is particularly concerning as Homelander is aware that The Boys are a threat to him. Fans can stream The Boys seasons 1-3 on Amazon Prime.
