Some players of Starfield have noticed a striking resemblance between one of the game's backpacks and Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars. There are many similarities between Bethesda's latest first-person RPG and the iconic Star Wars franchise, as they both take place in distant galaxies that are home to various planets and alien species waiting to be discovered by players. In fact, some fans have even noticed the resemblances between the outfits that players can wear in Starfield and the poncho famously worn by Star Wars Jedi hero Cal Kestis in the game "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order."
The comparisons between Starfield and Star Wars have intensified with the addition of ship customization in the former, which allows players to explore the universe using replica versions of well-known starships such as the Rebellion's Y-Wing starfighter and the Trade Federation's infamous Vulture Droids. One modder has gone a step further by replacing Starfield's UC police officers with the armored Imperial Stormtroopers from the original Star Wars trilogy, and has promised to eventually convert the opposing Freestar Collective into the Rebel Alliance.
On the Starfield subreddit, a Reddit user named martywolfman recently shared a screenshot of a backpack available in the game. The backpack caught their attention as it bore a striking resemblance to Admiral Ackbar, the iconic Rebel leader from Star Wars. The design of the backpack featured an oval shape with two cylinders on the sides, resembling Ackbar's squid-like Mon Calamari face. Other users on the subreddit also noted this similarity.
Admiral Gial Ackbar first appeared in Return of the Jedi as the Rebel commander who led the attack on the second Death Star. Despite having limited screen time, he remains a fan favorite due to his memorable design, deep voice, and famous quote "It's a trap." He has made appearances in various Star Wars video games throughout the years and even starred in commercials promoting 2003's Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike.
In later Star Wars media, Admiral Ackbar made several appearances, including books, cartoons, and movies. Ultimately, he met a controversial offscreen death in The Last Jedi. Despite this, Ackbar's presence can be found in unexpected locations, such as a backpack that players can equip in Starfield. While the resemblance between the backpack and Ackbar is most likely coincidental, it adds to the enjoyable connection between Starfield and Star Wars, paying tribute to one of the Galaxy Far, Far Away's iconic military leaders. Starfield can be played on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
