Is it true that the Police Academy franchise is planning a reboot with The New Class, featuring Steve Guttenberg?
The popular comedy series began with 1984’s Police Academy, which followed the journey of new recruits striving to become police officers after the mayor's directive to accept all applications. The film was a massive hit, earning an impressive $149 million despite a modest $4.5 million budget.
The franchise spawned six sequels: Their First Assignment, Back in Training, Citizens on Patrol, Assignment Miami Beach, City Under Siege, and Mission to Moscow. The final film, released in 1994, flopped in the US, grossing only $126,000. An eighth installment has been stuck in development hell since 2003, but is there really progress with Police Academy: The New Class?

No, Police Academy: The New Class isn’t coming out in 2024, nor is any similar project being released any time soon.
Predictably, a Facebook page is responsible for getting people excited: YODA BBY ABY, which regularly shares fake posters and other made-up news.

The page announced a reboot of Police Academy, featuring Steve Guttenberg in the lead role as Commandant Carey Mahoney, set to hit theaters in March 2024. Unfortunately, the movie is not happening, but there is still hope for a future Police Academy entry.
Police Academy 8 was initially set for release in 2007 with the original cast, but the project was put on hold and seemed likely to become a direct-to-DVD movie. Michael Winslow, who played Larvell Jones, expressed hope in 2008 that the film would come together, while Guttenberg confirmed in the same year that an eighth film was still in the works and that he would direct it. In 2010, Guttenberg shared with The Hollywood Reporter his vision for the new film, which he promised would bring new talent and humor to the beloved franchise, and retain the iconic musical theme.
Throughout the 2010s, there were discussions about the development of a Police Academy reboot, with Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele initially set to produce. The most recent update came in 2018 when Guttenberg tweeted about the upcoming film, stating that it was in the works. In the meantime, feel free to explore our other TV & movie hubs below.

As a Gen Z fan, I grew up watching the Police Academy movies with my family. They were a staple of our movie nights, and we would always laugh until our sides hurt. The characters were so lovable and relatable, and the humor was just so silly and over-the-top. I was really excited when I heard about the rumors of a new Police Academy movie, and I was hoping that it would be just as good as the originals.
However, I was disappointed to learn that the rumors were false. I think it would be really cool if they did make a new Police Academy movie, but I'm not sure if it would be able to live up to the originals. The originals were just so special, and I'm not sure if a new movie could capture the same magic. But I would definitely be willing to give it a chance!
