The Season 2 finale of Our Flag Means Death is now available, leaving swashbuckling fans eager to know if there will be a Season 3. Here's what we can tell you.
David Jenkins, the creator, and Taika Waititi, the director who also plays Captain Blackbeard, have successfully garnered a loyal and devoted fan base throughout the show's two seasons.
The Max series is an engaging romantic comedy set in a specific time period. It follows the clumsy character Stede Bonnet, who tries to gain recognition as a pirate and develops feelings for Blackbeard at the same time. This show has gained immense popularity and has become a top topic of conversation this year. Fans are eagerly awaiting news about a potential Season 3. Here's what we know so far.
Will there be an Our Flag Means Death Season 3?
Max is yet to renew Our Flag Means Death for a Season 3 – but there’s definitely potential.
The debut season may have started off slow, but the show's viewership has steadily increased. According to The Wrap, demand for the show reached its peak at 40.8 times the average series demand, 47 days after its premiere.
Fans and critics have embraced Our Flag Means Death Season 2, with a noteworthy 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, there is a significant distinction between the conclusions of Season 1 and Season 2. While the initial one concluded with an unresolved event, the latter appears to be more conclusive. Nevertheless, Jenkins assured Entertainment Weekly that there is still a substantial amount of narrative left to unfold.
When questioned about a possible Season 3, he responded, "The decision will depend on whether it is logical for them to continue with a third installment. We have numerous ideas for a third season and a wealth of untold story to uncover.
"Nevertheless, if it doesn't materialize, my intention was to conclude Stede and Blackbeard's journey on a positive note. Rather than witnessing them suffer consequences for their choices, I wanted to capture a fleeting moment of contentment. However, this moment merely scratches the surface as their relationship will require significant effort to endure."
“But it felt like a satisfying conclusion to the second season, offering a refreshing contrast to the first. If no further opportunities arise, I am content with this serving as a suitable resting point.”
Delving into potential story expansions, Jenkins further commented, "I find the idea of Frenchie taking charge of the Revenge intriguing. It would create an interesting dynamic and a thrilling setting to explore. Additionally, Ed and Stede are in a stage of their relationship where they are ready to take the next step and move in together, possibly even starting a business together."
"We believe there is an untold narrative about the evolution of relationships as they mature. It delves into the intricate workings of maintaining a successful partnership, which goes beyond the illusion of a perpetual happily ever after. The efforts and dedication involved in making it thrive are what truly intrigues me, and I yearn for the opportunity to witness and share this story."
