Could Loki be considered the strongest character in the MCU following the Season 2 finale? The power dynamics may have shifted with significant developments in the sixth and final episode of Loki Season 2, titled "Glorious Purpose." Among these developments is the introduction of a new iteration of the World Tree, Yggdrasil, comprised of fractured branches from the timeline.
The finale of "Glorious Purpose" brought together the storylines of all its main characters, including Loki, Mobius, Sylvie, and Ravonna Renslayer. Among these conclusions, Renslayer's fate was particularly memorable, as she met her apparent demise at the hands of the Void gatekeeper, Alioth.
Furthermore, the Season 2 finale of Loki sets the stage for the future of the MCU Phases Five and Six. A conversation between Loki and He Who Remains suggests that the various versions of Kang the Conqueror, embodied by Jonathan Majors, will pose the greatest threat to the MCU in the coming years. Warning - significant spoilers ahead!
Is Loki now the most powerful MCU character?
Fortunately for the MCU’s costumed do-gooders, they may have an ace up their collective sleeve when it comes time to confront the multiverse’s legion of Kangs: Loki.
In the final episode of Loki Season 2, the antagonist-turned-protagonist experienced a significant increase in his already impressive powers by using his magical abilities to create a revamped version of Yggdrasil. Despite appearing to sacrifice his life in the process, it is revealed in the closing moments that Loki not only survived but now exerts some sort of dominion over the World Tree.
The implication is that Loki is potentially one of the most formidable characters in the MCU at present. While the full extent of his newfound power is not explicitly shown, the episode "Glorious Purpose" strongly suggests he possesses near-omnipotent abilities. He has literally reshaped the multiverse using his own hands, leading to the reasonable assumption that he can continue altering it as desired, although this notion has yet to be confirmed by Marvel Studios.
If this assumption holds true, Loki would join the ranks of cosmic beings such as the Celestials and Eternity, who possess the ability to create universes and fulfill any wish, respectively. He would also be on par with or potentially surpass Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, who can manipulate reality, as well as other powerful figures in the MCU like Kang and Thanos, who lack this innate capability.
When will Loki appear in the MCU next?
To uncover the true extent of Loki's power, fans will have to exercise patience until his next appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the exact timing of his return remains uncertain, as Tom Hiddleston is currently not confirmed for any future MCU projects. This uncertainty raises doubts about whether Loki will make another appearance at all.
Producer Kevin Wright expressed his desire to bring back Tom Hiddleston for another set of Loki episodes in Season 3, emphasizing that Loki has been a part of the universe for 12 years and hoping for another successful 12-year run to tell more stories.
