Will there be another sequel to The Hangover franchise, which was one of the most successful comedy movie series of the early 2010s? It's difficult to talk about hit comedy movies without bringing up The Hangover, which started in 2009 and resulted in a trilogy that concluded in 2013.
The franchise kicked off with this premise: "Just 48 hours before his wedding, Doug and his three buddies embark on a wild and unforgettable bachelor party trip to Las Vegas. The next morning, they wake up with no recollection of the previous night and no sign of Doug. With time running out, the trio sets out to retrace their steps and locate Doug in order to get him back to Los Angeles for the wedding."
However, despite the success of the movie series, the question remains: will this trilogy expand into a four-movie franchise?
Will there be a Hangover 4?
Bradley Cooper Open to Another Hangover Sequel
Despite the lack of concrete plans for another Hangover sequel, Bradley Cooper has expressed his willingness to reprise his role as elementary school teacher Phil Wenneck. Alongside Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, Cooper starred in the hit comedy franchise.
During a recent interview on The New Yorker Radio Hour, Cooper expressed his cautious enthusiasm, saying, "Well, I would definitely do Hangover 5. Hangover 4 would come first, but yeah. I would probably do Hangover 4 in an instant, just because I love [the series’ director] Todd [Phillips], I love Zach, I love Ed so much. I probably would, yeah. I don’t think Todd’s ever going to do that.” To be fair, Cooper is probably correct in his assumption that Todd Phillips may never return to direct another Hangover film, as he has shifted towards more serious drama with movies like the 2019 Joker and the 2016 dramedy War Dogs.
Additionally, the main cast's packed schedules, which include Marvel movies and popular shows, would make it extremely challenging to reunite the same team. Ed Helms, known for his role as Dentist Stu Price in the film, also expressed in 2018 that the likelihood of a new Hangover movie was slim to none, and has not shown any sign of changing his mind since then.
Moreover, as the franchise continued, it experienced a decline in both critical and commercial success. While the first movie earned $469.3 million from a $35 million budget and received a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the 2011 sequel only achieved a 34% rating, and the 2013 installment fared even worse with a 20% rating.
So while Bradley Cooper seems interested, a fourth Hangover movie would have a lot of opposing factors to overcome if it hoped to be a successful possibility.

Editor's P/S
As a fan of the Hangover franchise, I'm thrilled to hear that Bradley Cooper is open to doing a fourth installment. The original trilogy was a huge success, and I think there's still a lot of potential for more stories in this universe. I'm particularly interested in seeing what happens to the characters after the events of the third movie.
However, I'm also aware of the challenges that a fourth movie would face. The main cast is all very busy, and it would be difficult to get them all together for another film. Additionally, the critical and commercial reception to the third movie was not as strong as the first two, so there's a risk that a fourth movie could be a disappointment.
Overall, I'm cautiously optimistic about the possibility of a fourth Hangover movie. I think it could be a lot of fun, but I'm also aware of the challenges that it would face. I'm hopeful that the filmmakers can overcome these challenges and deliver a movie that lives up to the legacy of the original trilogy.
