Has Season 7 of Billions marked the end for Bobby Axelrod and Chuck Rhoades, or can we expect to see them return for Season 8? The show, which premiered on Showtime in 2016, takes place in the high-stakes world of New York finance and centers around the battle between the unscrupulous hedge fund manager Axelrod and the cunning United States Attorney Rhoades as they each employ questionable tactics to outsmart one another.
Co-created by Brian Koppelman, David Levein, and Andrew Ross Sorkin, the show showcased outstanding performances from Damian Lewis (portraying Bobby) and Paul Giamatti (as Chuck). The ensemble cast also included talented actors such as Corey Stoll, Maggie Siff, Clancy Brown, Malin Akerman, Rick Hoffman, Asia Kate Dillon, David Strathairn, Piper Perabo, and John Malkovich, who delivered a remarkable accent.
With Season 7 concluding in a gripping episode last night, our thoughts on it can be found here. However, does this signify the end of Axe and Chuck's journey?
Will there be a Billions Season 8?
No, there will not be a Season 8 of Billions, with the series ending via Episode 12 of Season 7.
The grand finale was highly satisfying as Axelrod and Rhoades, once sworn enemies, joined forces to take down their shared adversary, Mike Prince. Their collaboration proves successful, concluding their thrilling saga that spanned over seven years. As they finally put their differences aside, a newfound respect is forged between them.
Regarding the climax, Levien admitted to The LA Times that they did not have a predetermined ending when they started the show, spanning seven seasons and 84 episodes. There was no grand plan in place.
Koppelman chimed in, saying that they did not initially know about the character of Mike Prince. However, what they did know was the importance of remaining observant and receptive as the show progressed, in order to accurately capture how the characters shaped their own mythology.
“We have a new type of billionaire, someone who strives to portray themselves as genuinely concerned about the holistic nature of the world and the potential negative impact of wealth. This represents a significant departure from Axe's perspective. In one particular scene, Axe declares, 'Come on, guys like us are monsters.' In response, Prince remarks, 'Well, but I'm a cuddly monster.' It is safe to say that anyone who claims to be a cuddly monster is not truly so, correct? As soon as we introduced this element, it became apparent what kind of conclusion we might ultimately be heading towards."
Billions creator on potential spinoffs
No information has been revealed yet regarding any potential spinoffs for the TV show "Billions." Mike Prince suggests that a different show could be created based on the concept of second chances, as it is a fundamental aspect of America. Additionally, Taylor Mason's new journey could be the focal point of a standalone series. When asked about the future of the "Billions" universe, Koppelman explains to the LA Times that they are captivated by the world and characters who are skilled individuals with an inflated sense of their abilities, as well as gamblers who take big risks. They anticipate continuing to explore and work within this realm in some manner.
