Invincible has finally ended its two-year break by unveiling the poster for its highly anticipated second season. While the majority of the beloved characters from Season 1 make an appearance, one crucial figure is conspicuously absent - Omni-Man, the formidable antagonist of the previous season.
The recently revealed poster for Invincible season 2 showcases nearly all the familiar faces that fans grew to know and love in the first season, with one notable exception - Mark Grayson's father, Nolan. After his shocking act of restraining himself from fatally harming his own son, Nolan escaped from Earth. This deliberate omission from the poster hints at potential developments that may unravel in the upcoming season.
Invincible's official Twitter account recently unveiled the poster for the highly anticipated second season. The caption teased the arrival of new artwork exclusively through @IGN and encouraged fans to visit their site for further details, as revealed by Cecil. The poster itself showcases the characters effortlessly sitting together on a bus, effortlessly embodying their unique personalities. Notably absent from the poster is Omni Man, the tyrannical Viltrumite, suggesting that his presence in the upcoming season may be delayed or even nonexistent.
In addition to familiar faces from the first season, the Invincible season 2 poster features characters previously thought to be deceased, such as Donald and The Immortal. This revelation raises the possibility of their potential resurrection or the influence of their legacies in the upcoming season. Furthermore, the poster introduces new characters like Bulletproof, a personal favorite of creator Robert Kirkman. Audiences can expect to encounter other intriguing newcomers throughout the season, likely drawn from the pages of the original comic.
Returning to Omni Man, the last glimpse viewers had of him was when he tearfully departed Earth, realizing that no amount of physical or psychological torment inflicted upon his son Mark could sever their unbreakable bond of love. Witnessing his son's unwavering love as a father was a novel experience for Nolan, one that eluded him on his home planet. This revelation not only meant that Mark would never embrace his Viltrumite heritage, but also suggested that Nolan, who had grown up under oppressive Viltrumite rule, had genuinely transformed into a more empathetic being during his time on Earth. Despite the brevity of 17 years in the lifespan of a Viltrumite, it was ample time for Nolan to recognize the immense value of humanity.
The lingering question remains: will he continue to assume the role of an antagonist? The identity of the villain for Invincible season 2 has already been disclosed. While Omni Man's emergence as a surprise villain added to his intrigue, what made him even more captivating was the realization that he ultimately ceased his destructive path not because there existed a force on Earth more formidable than him, but because his love for humanity surpassed his obligation to Viltrum. Although forgiveness may be unattainable for his past transgressions against the Guardians of the Globe, Omni Man's journey may now revolve around his quest for redemption throughout the remainder of the series.
Invincible season 1 can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
