College student Riley Strain has undergone a preliminary autopsy. The Metro Nashville Police Department told local ABC affiliate WKRN on Saturday, March 23, that there was no evidence of foul play or trauma in Strain's death, indicating that it was likely accidental.

Local police officers revealed that Riley Strain, a 22-year-old college student from the University of Missouri, Columbia, was found dead eight miles away from downtown Nashville. Riley was in Tennessee for a Delta Chi fraternity trip.

On Friday, March 22, the Nashville PD announced on Twitter that Riley's body was recovered from the Cumberland River in West Nashville. They mentioned that no signs of foul play were found, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Strain disappeared on March 8 after being last seen at Luke Bryan’s Luke’s 32 Bridge Food + Drink restaurant.

A few days later, Strain's stepfather, Chris Whiteid, mentioned to local news outlet WSMV that Strain had told his friends he was walking back to his hotel before going missing. His friends didn't think much of it at the time.

Whiteid shared during an episode of “Top Story With Tom Llamas” that Strain had reached out to his family upon their arrival at the bar.

"He sent pictures and called on Friday night," Whiteid remembered. "It was strange. We're going through a tough time, but we're staying hopeful for a good outcome."

After Strain was reported missing, security footage later showed that he had taken a wrong turn away from his hotel. It was also discovered that his bank card had been found near Cumberland River and Gay Street.

Further investigation revealed that Strain had been walking around intoxicated with a homeless man. Additionally, he had sent a confusing text to a girl he was seeing before the trip, which left her puzzled.

Bryan, 47, and his bar have not publicly addressed Strain’s death. They were cooperating with the investigation.

The statement on the singer’s Instagram earlier this month mentioned that they had provided detailed information to help the Nashville Metro Police Department’s Missing Persons investigation of Riley Strain. This included security camera footage, photos of Riley at the establishment with time stamps, transaction records, and staff accounts.

The statement went on to say that Riley visited Luke's 32 Bridge and bought one alcoholic drink and two waters. At 9:35 p.m., the security team decided to escort him out through the Broadway exit due to conduct standards. Riley was accompanied by one member of his group down the stairs, while the other person stayed inside and went back upstairs. The venue expressed their thoughts and prayers for Riley's loved ones during this challenging time and hoped for his safe return.

The tragic death of Riley Strain, a promising college student, has left a profound sense of sorrow and unanswered questions. While the preliminary autopsy suggests an accidental drowning, it is crucial to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and the events leading up to his untimely demise.

Strain's last known location was Luke Bryan's bar, where he was reportedly intoxicated and possibly disoriented. The fact that his bank card was found near the Cumberland River raises suspicions about whether he stumbled into the water or if there were other contributing factors. The puzzling text message he sent prior to his disappearance and the conflicting accounts from his friends add another layer of complexity to the case. It is imperative that authorities thoroughly investigate all aspects of Strain's movements and interactions before concluding that his death was purely accidental. security footage are positive steps, but more transparency and accountability may be needed to prevent similar incidents in the future. As the community mourns Riley's loss, it is imperative to prioritize safety and well-being in nightlife establishments and to ensure that those who are vulnerable are protected.
