Insider reverts to former name amid Henry Blodget's departure as CEO

Insider undergoes rebranding as Henry Blodget steps down from CEO position, marking a significant change for the business-focused website he established in 2007

Henry Blodget, the co-founder of Insider, a website dedicated to business news, is resigning from his position as chief executive. This decision is a part of a larger restructuring at the company, which involves a name change back to "Business Insider" and a shift in focus towards business news, along with a refreshed logo.

Barbara Peng, who has been the company's president since 2021, will succeed Blodget as CEO. The company praised her for successfully navigating Business Insider through the difficulties caused by the pandemic and the decline in the advertising industry, as well as for fine-tuning the strategy. Blodget, a former analyst who faced civil securities fraud charges in 2003 and was prohibited from the securities industry, will not be leaving Business Insider. Instead, he will take up a position on the company's board.

The publication was originally called "Silicon Alley Insider" when it was launched in 2007, with a focus on covering the New York business community. Two years later, it changed its name to Business Insider. In 2015, German media giant Axel Springer acquired the company for $343 million. A year after that, a general news website named "Insider" was launched.

In 2021, the website rebranded by removing "Business" from its name, combining the general news site with the business news. This change aimed to expand its audience, attract more advertising revenue, and introduce a subscription offering.

Insider employees unionized earlier this year, concluding a two-year struggle with management which entailed a 13-day strike.

By returning to Business Insider, Peng expressed the significance of their core focus on business, technology, and innovation. They are now embracing their origins and emphasizing their strengths in captivating, surprising, and consistently informative storytelling.
