Season 22 of American Idol is coming to a close, and soon we will know who the winner is. Abi Carter, Will Moseley, and Jack Blocker are the final contestants vying for the title.
The exciting finale will air on Sunday, March 19, with special guest mentor and performer Jon Bon Jovi. In addition, we can look forward to performances by a star-studded lineup including Jason Mraz, James Bay, CeCe Winans, Nick Fradiani, Wynonna Judd, Seal, Cody Johnson, Bishop Briggs, New Kids on the Block, and Hootie & The Blowfish.
The season 22 finale of Idol will also mark Katy Perry's departure. After seven seasons as a judge, Perry announced in February that it's time for her to march to her own beat. Since the show was brought back by ABC in 2018, Perry has been judging alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. While her replacement has not been named yet, Richie is hoping for someone as talented as Taylor Swift or Kelly Clarkson to fill her shoes. Perry has even suggested Jelly Roll as a potential successor.

Ahead of the finale, scroll down for a quick recap of the finalists’ journeys:
Abi Carter
Carter, originally from California's Coachella Valley, grew up in a musical household as the second of seven kids. She began singing in church, talent shows, and local competitions. Her bio describes her as "near virtuosic" on the piano. Despite planning to study psychology in college, she auditioned for American Idol.
During the general auditions, Carter wowed the judges with her rendition of Billie Eilish's "What Was I Made For?" This performance earned her a Platinum Ticket, making her the only finalist to receive such an award.

The following week, she sang the worship song "Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)" in the first public voting round. Viewers rallied behind Carter, propelling her into the Top 20. Displaying her versatility, Carter delivered impressive performances of My Chemical Romance's "Welcome to the Black Parade" and Yebba's "My Mind."
For the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" week, Carter paid homage to Elton John with a rendition of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." In the "Billboard #1 Hits" round, Carter paid tribute to Swift with a full-length version of "All Too Well," which helped her advance to the Top 10. During the "Birth Year" week, where contestants had to choose a song from their birth year, Carter wowed the audience with Coldplay's 2003 hit "Clocks."
After advancing to the Top 8, Carter had to sing Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" for her performance. In addition to this song, she also covered Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" with other contestants McKenna Faith Breinholt, Julia Gagnon, and Kaibrienne.
Her performance of "Bring Me to Life" helped her secure a spot in the next round of the competition. In that round, she sang Adele's "Hello" and Fall Out Boy's "Light Em Up." Moving on to the Top 5, Carter showcased her talent by performing two songs from Disney movies: "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid and Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain," which was featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soundtrack.
She cites Swift, Gracie Abrams, Sara Bareilles and Lizzy McAlpine as influences. Amidst her American Idol success, Carter released her debut single, “It’s All Love.”
Will Moseley
Originally from Hazlehurst, Georgia, Moseley was a college football player at Maryville College in East Tennessee. He completed his education at Georgia Southern University in 2023. After experiencing multiple concussions, Moseley decided to trade in his football for a guitar, as reported by Knox News.

Throughout his journey on Idol, Moseley brought a touch of southern charm to his performances. From Bob Seger’s “Night Moves” during “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” week, to Chris Stapleton’s “Starting Over” for “Billboard #1 Hits” week, and even a rendition of Travis Tritt’s “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde” for the Top 10 round.

Jack Blocker announced his new song, "Good Book Bad," on Monday, May 13. He shared on Instagram, "So, through this whole journey, I came across a once-in-a-lifetime song and was lucky enough to get to have a hand in sharing it with the world." The song "Good Book Bad" will be released on Friday, 5/17.
The stars of Texas are shining bright for Blocker, who proudly represents North Texas. Originally from Richardson and a graduate of Trinity Christian Academy in Addison, Blocker was once a shy kid. However, he soon discovered his passion for sports, writing, art, and music, as reported by ABC 8 WFAA. As a teenager, he made the decision to overcome his shyness and step into the spotlight. In 2022, he and his wife made the move from Dallas to Nashville, Tennessee, to fully pursue his music career.
Blocker's journey in the Idol competition almost didn't happen. Initially, two judges voted against him moving forward, but the production crew intervened and called for a re-vote. Fortunately, Blocker was given a second chance and received a golden ticket to Hollywood.
