Before sparking romantic speculations with Mancuso, Mendes previously had a relationship with photographer Ian Wallace between 2013 and 2017. She later began dating her Riverdale co-star Charles Melton, with whom she had an on-and-off association from 2018 to 2021.

Mendes has previously discussed her decision to keep her personal life private. "In my everyday life, I am very open, but I have also learned to be cautious.
