Miley Cyrus is grateful to have Beyoncé as one of her closest friends in the music industry.
“Sometimes I forget to mention things that are just normal parts of my everyday life, like texting with Beyoncé,” Cyrus, 31, shared in an interview with W magazine released on Monday, June 3. “I think it’s a really sweet aspect of our friendship, because in the last few years, I’ve become more private about my personal life and what I share with the public. Beyoncé is the same way.”
Cyrus and Beyoncé share a strong friendship that goes beyond their work in the industry. They both feel a sense of "safety" when they connect on personal matters. Their public personas may be well-known, but behind closed doors, they share a more personal bond.
One topic they often discuss is their relationships with their mothers. Cyrus mentioned that Beyoncé's mom, Ms. Tina, and her own mom, Mama Tish, have a special connection. Both mothers are not only important to their daughters but also to their fans.
The singer of the song "Flowers" revealed that she and Beyoncé connected because they both had their mothers supporting them at the beginning of their careers.
She mentioned, "Both of us had moms who were everything to us. My mom did my makeup, hair, sewing, styling, and even managed my tours - she was like my actual manager. The word 'mother' is so powerful and can mean different things. It can be someone like RuPaul or Beyoncé. Our fans even refer to us as 'mother.'"

Cyrus and Beyoncé first crossed paths when they both performed at the Stand Up to Cancer benefit in 2008. Alongside other artists like Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, and Nicole Scherzinger, they sang “Just Stand Up!” during the event.
During the charity show, Cyrus found herself between Beyoncé and Rihanna, towering at five-feet-ten inches in heels. She reminisced about their powerful presence and how they appeared as fully realized, grown women. Cyrus, on the other hand, felt a bit out of place with braces on the back of her teeth. Despite this, Beyoncé and Rihanna were protective of her during the event.
After meeting at the show, Beyoncé and Cyrus stayed in touch. Cyrus mentioned that as she was growing up, the singer of "Texas Hold Em" gave her some heartfelt gifts, such as a personalized House of Deréon jacket.
Nearly two decades later, Cyrus reunited with Beyoncé to collaborate on her country music album Cowboy Carter. They worked together on the track "II Most Wanted," which they both wrote. Cyrus shared that she had actually written the song about "two and a half years ago," but never did anything with it, even though it was one of her mom's favorites.
"When Beyoncé contacted me about collaborating on music, I immediately thought it was a perfect fit for our relationship," she shared. "I mentioned to her, 'We don't need to go country; we already are country. It's in our roots.' I pointed out, 'You're from Texas and I'm from Tennessee, so much of our essence will shine through in this song.' Having the opportunity to not only sing but also write a song for Beyoncé was truly a dream come true."
