Elizabeth Holmes is set to be released from prison earlier than expected, according to federal officials. The U.S. Bureau of Prisons anticipates her release from a prison in Bryan, Texas, in December 2032, approximately nine and a half years after she commenced her original sentence of 11 years and three months.

Original story below:

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes reported to prison on Tuesday, May 30, after being sentenced to more than 11 years behind bars.

Holmes, aged 39, has turned herself over to authorities at a federal women’s prison camp in Bryan, Texas, as reported by the Associated Press. This development follows her conviction on four charges of defrauding investors, which include three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Judge Edward Davilla handed down a sentence of 11 years and three months in prison for Holmes in November 2022. Upon her release, the former CEO will also be subject to three years of supervision and a fine of $100 for each count of fraud, according to CNN.

During the trial, Holmes expressed remorse for her "shortcomings" and acknowledged that she had let down her team.

"I was deeply devoted to Theranos, as it was the culmination of my life's work. My team held immense significance to me, and their unwavering dedication was remarkable," Holmes stated to the judge. "Every single day, the weight of guilt for the suffering endured by others due to my failure has burdened me. I offer my heartfelt apologies."

In addition to Holmes, her ex and former partner Sunny Balwani is also facing charges for Theranos.

Balwani, aged 57, first crossed paths with Holmes during her time in Stanford's summer Mandarin program. He played a crucial role as her right-hand at the company, but their professional relationship came to an end in 2016 when Balwani left Theranos.

In December 2022, Balwani received a 13-year prison sentence for deceiving investors and patients regarding the company's operations and technology.

After ending her relationship with Balwani, the former Stanford University student, now found companionship with Billy Evans. Their paths are said to have crossed at a California party in 2017, and they discreetly got married two years afterward.

"Experiencing love amidst the chaos and finding your soulmate is truly the most breathtaking experience," Holmes expressed to The New York Times in May 2023.

In July 2021, Holmes welcomed her son, William, into the world. During the November 2022 hearing, the businesswoman, who had fallen from grace, revealed that she was expecting her second child with her partner.

Several months later, it was revealed in court documents that Holmes had discreetly welcomed her second child into the world. She argued that the presence of her newborn was one of the factors warranting approval for a sentence postponement.

Hailing from Washington D.C., Holmes established Theranos in 2003 with her visionary concept of revolutionizing blood testing by utilizing a mere droplet obtained through a finger prick. Garnering over $700 million in funding from prominent investors, the company additionally secured collaborations with industry giants like Walgreens.

Concerns grew alongside the company's expansion regarding the functionality of its technology. The FDA initiated an investigation in August 2015, and journalist John Carreyrou exposed Theranos' alleged inability to produce accurate results with its blood-testing machine in October of the same year, asserting that samples were being sent to other manufacturers' machines.

Following the discontinuation of Theranos' laboratory operations and wellness centers, the SEC accused Holmes, Theranos, and Balwani of perpetrating an extensive fraud in March 2018.
