The Notebook is headed for Broadway. Ingrid Michaelson, the composer and lyricist for the production, announced on Instagram that the musical will begin previews on February 6 and officially open on March 14 at the Shoenfeld Theatre. This exciting opportunity to create a musical with her talented team has been a thrilling and unexpected adventure for Michaelson.
She added, "And many more incredible individuals! I look forward to seeing you at the theater. I'll be the one clapping the hardest, laughing the loudest, and probably shedding the most tears."
Additionally, Michaelson, aged 43, shared the initial images from the show, which displayed a man and woman depicted in watercolor paintings, embracing in a near-kiss. Alongside the singer's Instagram post, there were several behind-the-scenes photos capturing her presence with the other writers and directors, Michael Greif and Schele Williams, as they explored the Great White Way theater for the first time. The cast for The Notebook has not yet been announced.
Michaelson, currently in a relationship with Broadway veteran Will Chase, revealed in January 2019 her involvement in writing a script for a musical inspired by the 2004 film. The movie itself was an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' bestselling novel, featuring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.

"I am currently working on a musical called The Notebook," Michaelson revealed during her co-hosting gig on Today with Hoda Kotb. "I haven't been able to share this news for a long time. The book for the musical is being written by Bekah Brunstetter, who is also a writer for This Is Us."
The musician elaborated, saying, "I have been working on this project for around a year and a half, so the progress has been slow but steady. It's a unique experience to write songs for characters and other individuals, as opposed to writing about my own emotions and experiences. This perspective shift has been both interesting and very different for me."
Michaelson documented her writing process on social media in the lead-up to the tryout run of the production in Chicago last year. In July 2022, she shared a sneak peek of one of the songs from the musical, titled "If This Is Love," with footage directed by Tony nominee Chase, who is 52 years old.

Michaelson crooned in the video, seemingly taking on the role of the protagonist Allie Hamilton, "Each day I've longed to experience this overwhelming sensation / Enduring knots in my stomach, that never seem to find solace." She continued, "Butterflies flutter ceaselessly within me, refusing to depart / Delightfully queasy at the mere thought of his countenance, indescribably irreplaceable."
