Hugh Jackman forgot to inform his agent about his role in the new Marvel superhero movie, Deadpool & Wolverine. Despite saying goodbye to his iconic X-Men character in 2017's Logan, the Australian actor is thrilled to reprise the role alongside Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool.
Jackman was just as surprised by his decision to join the movie as his fans were when it was announced in 2022.
In an interview with Fandango on Monday, May 20, Jackman shared that the idea to work with Ryan Reynolds on the film came to him suddenly while he was driving.
Once Jackman, 55, arrived at his destination, he immediately called Reynolds, 47.
I called Ryan and simply said, "Let's do it," the actor shared. Without informing my agent or anyone else, I had to quickly call my agent and inform them, "Oh, by the way, I've just agreed to be in a movie."
Jackman expressed his eagerness to bring Wolverine and Deadpool back together, who first appeared on screen together in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This desire was sparked after watching 2016's Deadpool, which served as a refreshing start for Reynolds' character.
Ever since I watched Deadpool 1, I had a feeling in the back of my head that those two characters should be together. I just knew it,” he shared. “I could sense that fans had been wanting it since I first portrayed Wolverine with the claws.
After playing Wolverine in multiple X-Men and solo movies, Jackman decided to retire his character following the film Logan, which wrapped up his character’s story.

"I swear, I thought I was done when I said I was done," he told Fandango.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be the first time these characters appear in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Empire magazine in March that he advised Hugh Jackman against reprising his role as Wolverine. Feige mentioned, "I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back. You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo.’"
Deadpool & Wolverine is in theaters on July 26.
Editor's P/S:
Hugh Jackman's unexpected return as Wolverine in "Deadpool & Wolverine" has sparked excitement among fans and industry insiders alike. The actor's spontaneous decision to join the project highlights the unique bond between Jackman and the character he played for nearly two decades. Jackman's enthusiasm for reprising the role suggests that his retirement from the X-Men franchise was not a final farewell but rather a temporary hiatus.
The collaboration between Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, is a testament to the enduring popularity of both characters. Their chemistry on screen in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" hinted at the potential for a standalone film, and the success of Deadpool's solo outings has only increased the anticipation for their reunion. With Marvel Studios now overseeing the project, the integration of these beloved characters into the MCU promises to be a major event for superhero fans.
