Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has hired her own lawyer to drop her father's last name. A source confirmed that Shiloh, who is 18 years old, paid for the lawyer herself. The insider mentioned that Jolie, who is 48 years old, is not involved in the legal proceedings. The decision of Shiloh to remove Pitt's last name is believed to be related to a history of abuse.
Shiloh has officially requested to change her name to Shiloh Jolie, as confirmed by Us on Monday, June 3. The paperwork was filed on her 18th birthday, May 27, when she became a legal adult. However, the request is still pending approval.
Brad Pitt, 60, and Angelina Jolie share Shiloh, as well as their other children: Maddox, 22, Pax, 19, Zahara, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 15. The couple, who were together for a decade before marrying in August 2014, split in September 2016. Since then, they have been involved in a lengthy legal battle. In 2019, they were declared legally single, but are yet to reach a resolution on their divorce or the custody of their minor children.
In November 2023, reports stated that Zahara decided to remove Pitt from her last name when she became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College.
During a video shared by Essence, the college student proudly introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie. She mentioned her roots in Los Angeles, California, and proudly declared herself as number seven in her sorority line.
Last month, it was confirmed that Vivienne chose to go by the name Vivienne Jolie professionally while working as a production assistant for Broadway's The Outsiders, a musical produced by her mom, Jolie.
The decision by the children to drop their father's name has not been publicly discussed. This change comes amidst Pitt and Jolie's ongoing legal dispute over the Chateau Miraval winery. The former couple acquired a majority stake in the French winery in 2008. Jolie later sold her shares to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler in 2021, leading Pitt to file a lawsuit against Jolie the following year, alleging a breach of contract.
The news about Shiloh's name change surfaced right after it was revealed on May 16 that Jolie was required to provide all non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) she had signed with a third party between 2014 and 2022. The use of NDAs has played a significant role in their legal dispute, especially when Jolie declined to sell her Miraval shares to Pitt unless he agreed to a mutual non-disparagement agreement.

In the actor's most recent filing, it was argued that if Jolie had asked others to sign NDAs as broad as the one she found unconscionable, it would weaken her reason for ending negotiations with Pitt.
Jolie has hit back claiming that the NDAs are not relevant but was shut down by the judge.
