Due to the ongoing writers' strike, production has been halted for both Daredevil: Born Again and the Penguin TV series. This is not the first time these shows have been impacted by picketers, but this time they will not resume filming until the strike is resolved. One of the main issues at stake is fair pay for writers, as nearly half of them are currently earning minimum wage according to the WGA. Additionally, writers are not receiving residuals for shows that are streamed, which is a growing concern with the rise of streaming services. The WGA is also seeking safeguards to ensure that AI usage is limited in the industry.
Disney and Warner Bros. are feeling the heat of the ongoing writers' strike as they halt production on Daredevil: Born Again and The Penguin respectively. Both shows are expected to remain on hold until the strike is resolved. This is not the first time that Daredevil: Born Again has faced production shutdowns. Meanwhile, actor Colin Farrell has joined the picket line outside Paramount in Times Square in solidarity with the striking writers.
In a revival of the canceled Netflix series, Daredevil: Born Again will feature Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matthew Murdock in an 18-episode Disney Plus series. Joining him will be Jon Bernthal as The Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin. Meanwhile, The Penguin, a spin-off series from Matt Reeves' The Batman, will follow the rise of Farrell's character in Gotham City, with no connection to the DCU. However, with the ongoing writers' strike, production for both shows remains uncertain.
Daredevil: Born Again and Penguin are scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus and Max, respectively, in 2024
