Coral Island, a game similar to Stardew Valley, is set to release on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 14. This console release comes a year after the game was made available on Xbox Game Pass and Steam in early access.
Indie developer Stairway Games has been working on Coral Island since late 2019. After successfully raising over $1.6 million on Kickstarter from 36,374 backers, the studio partnered with Humble Games, the publishing arm of Humble Bundle, in March 2022. They then released a preview version of their farming simulation game in October.
Coral Island is set to depart from early access and release its 1.0 version on November 14. This launch will also bring the game to the current-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The 1.0 version of Coral Island will be priced at $29.99, which is $5 more than during its early access period. Stairway stated that the price increase is justified due to the significant influx of new content. According to them, this new price better reflects the overall quantity and quality of everything that Coral Island will offer starting in mid-November.
The 1.0 update of Coral Island brings exciting enhancements to the game, such as expanded romance options including marriage and family mechanics. Additionally, there will be a new story quest focusing on the rejuvenation of the town located on the titular island. The update also includes new interactions with NPCs, a pet adoption system, more underwater locations, and increased furnishing choices. Fans of Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, as well as those who appreciate diversity and inclusivity in entertainment, will find Coral Island's gameplay loop highly appealing. The game is also planned for release on the Nintendo Switch, albeit with a later release date compared to other platforms. The specific release date for the Switch version has not been announced yet, but it is aimed to launch on the eShop in 2024 according to Stairway.
In light of the current situation, the studio has expressed the need for additional time to improve the Switch version of Coral Island. Kickstarter backers who initially selected the Switch version but are becoming impatient can now switch their choice and request a Steam key instead. To make this request, backers should send an email to support@stairwaygames.com with the subject line "Request to exchange to a Steam key". Please note that this option will only be available until the end of October, as platform changes must be confirmed by November 1.
Coral Island is currently accessible on PC and will be released on November 14 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Development for the Switch version is also underway.
