A new romance manga series, titled "In Such A Small World" in English, was launched on publishing company Hakusensha's Manga Park website and app on September 4th. Created by Natsuki Takaya, the acclaimed author behind the popular romance series Fruits Basket, this manga follows the story of Sui Onodera. One day, Sui has an unexpected encounter with her neighbor, Kaoru Seto, who urgently enters her apartment to retrieve his dog from her balcony. This chance meeting sparks the beginning of a romantic connection between Sui and Kaoru.
Fruits Basket, one of Takaya's acclaimed works, made its debut in the shoujo manga magazine Hana to Yuma in 1998. It centers around Tohru Honda, a high school girl who finds herself living in a tent after her mother's recent passing. By chance, she meets Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure of the Sohma family and inadvertently discovers their family curse. This curse transforms Sohma family members into zodiac animals whenever they feel tired, stressed, or are touched by someone of the opposite gender from outside the family. Tohru is invited to reside with them, and as she delves deeper into understanding the family and herself, she forges meaningful relationships with each Sohma member.
The manga was first adapted into an anime in 2001, followed by a second adaptation that premiered in April 2019. The series' immense popularity led to the creation of a compilation film, drama CDs, spin-off manga, and more. It has also garnered numerous accolades, such as the 2001 Kodansha Manga Award and the Best Manga Award at the 2007 American Anime Awards.
Takaya's career has been tremendously successful, making fans eagerly anticipate the release of In Such A Small World. Although there is currently no news on an English translation, fans should stay vigilant as Takaya's newest series seems poised to become the next prominent romance story. The initial chapters of In Such A Small World can be found on the Manga Park website in Japanese.
