Heels Season 3: Explosive Plot Twists and Unforeseen Injuries Unveiled by Showrunner After Shocking Cancellation!

Heels Season 3 story and plans for Jack's injury revealed by showrunner after cancellation Despite the disappointment, O'Malley remains hopeful for the future of the show

Summary

Heels, despite being canceled, received acclaim and earned three nominations at the Critics' Choice Super Awards.

Showrunner Mike O'Malley is currently seeking a fresh network for Heels and is open to unveiling his season 3 concepts.

The forthcoming installment of the series will delve into the aftermath of Jack's severe injury and primarily emphasize the aspect of discovering camaraderie and compassion within the realm of wrestling.

Despite the unexpected cancellation of Heels, showrunner Mike O'Malley remains optimistic about the show's future. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, O'Malley discussed his plans for season 3 and expressed his intention to seek out other networks to continue the series. He also revealed that the upcoming season would delve into the consequences of Jack's injury in the season 2 finale and its impact on his character. Read O'Malley's explanation below:

Yeah, we are currently engaged in active efforts to do so. Furthermore, some of the actors are still bound by contract. It is worth noting that the recent writers' strike has just concluded. Naturally, I was unable to discuss this matter until now, and to be honest, the news was only revealed to me on Friday. However, our objective is not only to secure a new network for the show, but I genuinely believe that the Starz executives when they express their desire to see a future for the show as well, considering the significant investment they have made in it. I am truly confident that it will find a new home elsewhere. Allow me to elucidate; our protagonist will have to confront the consequences of that injury. Let me put it this way: he won't simply brush it off as a minor mishap. Nor will he say, "Oh, I really wanted Ace to win, and that was my way of outsmarting Charlie Gully." His injuries are quite substantial at that particular moment. We are uncertain about the extent of the damage. However, we are not going to handle this in a manner similar to "Friday Night Lights" because Stephen Amell, the star of our show, will be at the center of the storyline, showcasing his journey in overcoming this challenge. Regarding the show's future, whether it continues or not, I am working towards creating a series that explores the theme of people finding harmony and forming genuine connections. As Ace expressed in the final episode, he constantly pursued success, but he could have devoted more energy to fostering kindness. I firmly believe that there is an audience yearning to witness characters who grapple with their own humanity and strive to connect, as this is what individuals strive for in their own lives. Sadly, such narratives are not sufficiently represented on television.

Can Heels Find A New Network?

Other than Heels, several other shows have also faced cancellation recently. How I Met Your Father was cancelled by Hulu, ABC cancelled Home Economics, and HBO did the same with Winning Time: The Rise of The Lakers Dynasty. Although Amell's show is one of the more recent cancellations, there is still hope for its survival. Despite Starz's decision, there is always a possibility for O'Malley to find another platform to keep the show alive.

There is no guarantee that Heels will be picked up by another network. Despite O'Malley's determination to ensure the show's future, it is possible that no other network will choose to renew it. The negative press surrounding Amell's comments about the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in July may make networks hesitant to invite criticism by renewing the show.

One crucial factor that could help O'Malley's plans for a Heels season 3 become a reality is a strong show of support from the fans. Warrior Nun was saved by a massive fan campaign that lasted for eight months after Netflix decided not to renew the show, leading to the production of a trilogy of movies. If a wrestling show can garner a similar level of support from its fanbase, including billboards, letters, and months of campaigning like the fantasy action series did, another network might be willing to take a chance. For Jack's story to continue, Heels must find a studio willing to greenlight a third season.
