Halsey shared her secret health battle with fans on Tuesday, June 4, and broke down into tears.
In a series of videos posted on Instagram, the 29-year-old singer revealed, "Long story short, I'm lucky to be alive." She also mentioned that she wrote an album that begins with "The End," which is out now.
Halsey didn't mention her specific diagnosis, but she did mention the Lupus Research Alliance and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in her post.
In a video, Halsey shared that she felt like an old lady while dealing with her illness and treatment.
"I gave myself a timeline to be unwell for two more years. When I turn 30, it's going to be a fresh start," she said, massaging her legs on the couch. "I refuse to be sick. I will appear stunning and full of vitality. I will simply get to relive my 20s and 30s."
Halsey shared a post on her Instagram account, showing the start of her treatment. In another video, she showed snippets of her time in the hospital, capturing moments of tears, laughter, and rest throughout the ups and downs.
In a more uplifting moment, the singer posted a video of herself in the studio creating her latest song, "The End," which she composed during a challenging time in her life. Fans can enjoy listening to the complete song now.
Halsey's boyfriend, Avan Jogia, was quick to express his support through social media on Tuesday. In the comments section, he wrote, "I love you and am incredibly proud of you."
Rita Ora responded with warm wishes, saying, "I hope you're okay, beautiful lady ❤️."
On the other hand, Halsey hinted at the release of new music on Monday, June 3, suggesting that this upcoming record holds personal significance.
"I will be dropping the first song from my upcoming 5th album tomorrow on 6/04 at 9am pt / 12 et. But before that, I wanted to give you all a sneak peek," she shared on Instagram along with a teaser photo for the song. "This song is really special to me and I hope you all will love it too. Let's switch things up this time and begin at 'The End.'"
After listening to the song, it is evident that Halsey has faced many challenges in the past few years. Along with her recent treatments, Halsey also shared in 2018 that she has been diagnosed with endometriosis.
In her song "The End," Halsey shares her personal struggles through her own lyrics. She sings about the challenges she faces, with lines like, "Every couple of years now, a doctor says I’m sick / Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / And then they lay it on me / And at first, it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain / And I don’t like to complain, but I’m saying sorry."
Halsey also seems to mention her boyfriend, Jogia, whom she has been in a relationship with since the summer of 2023. In the song, she acknowledges him by singing, "When I met you, I thought I was damaged goods / Had a f–ked up childhood / And there’s poison in my brain and in my blood."
The chorus poses the question, "If you knew it was the end of the world, could you love me like a child? Could you hold me in the dark?"
In the second verse, Halsey seems to find her answer from Jogia. She sings, "I went to the clinic and asked to see the man in the white coat with his stethoscope, like a snake around his hand. I told him I'm not bitter because I found a lover who is better for my liver, and now I will finally recover."
Editor's P/S:
Halsey's candid revelation about her health struggles is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Her resilience and determination to overcome adversity are a testament to her strength and spirit. The fact that she is sharing her story so openly and vulnerably is a powerful reminder that we are not alone in our struggles and that there is hope amidst the darkness.
It is important to note that Halsey did not disclose her specific diagnosis, but she did mention the Lupus Research Alliance and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in her post. This suggests that she may be battling an autoimmune disorder or a blood cancer. Autoimmune disorders are a group of conditions in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues. Blood cancers, on the other hand, are a type of cancer that affects the blood cells or bone marrow. Both of these conditions can be serious and require ongoing treatment.
